the real truth isnt so sunny and sweet. AMD is in a small bind. There are tons of chips that arent capable 8150s @ 125w. I kinda was surprised to see the 3.6ghz with turbo being at 4.2ghz, its was a struggle. I wouldnt know anything though ;)

Its a clever way to use them chips and get the most out of them. The BD has lots of improving to do. This whole generation will be used to perfect the process, i cant wait till the next. AMD has lots to improve on and they know exactly where. A whole lot of time has been spent just trying to get to the speeds of the 8150, maybe too much....

Amd really needs to market this right...if not its gonna be bad. This generation of BD isnt gonna be the revolution, its not gonna put AMD on top. BD will shine at times, in the well coded benchmarks. It wont be a threat to Intel, in the end they will still have the crown. But AMD still has a great gem that needs to be marketed with great precision and care. This can make or break AMD.

I hope the best for AMD and the BD, i just know the deck is stacking high against them. I hope the extra time spent is worth it, it doesnt appear they gained much, but any gain is good right? maybe?

What we can bet is the time to buy a new CPU is Q1 2012. I bet anyone who buys SB now would regret it. This isnt because BD will be better but because the market once BD hits. Not only will we have new cpus from amd, Intel has some ultra powerful SB cpus just waiting to spoil, lol. On top of that, Intel will refresh its entire cpu line up and the prices will be sweet across the board.

They will be lucky to do as well as they did with socket 754 K8 with the initial BullDozers (and I'm assuming that the design will actually be something worth getting excited over here). They have learned nothing with their crazy socket games.

As for being marketed with precision and care, if that is what AMD's future depends on then you had best call in the receivers and liquidators right now.

So, anybody planning on attending AMD's little event?

For a hysteric Announcement? - i'll find out about it within minutes of it being announced anyway.

Nope; i am not traveling 500 miles ... although it is the perfect time weather-wise to visit San Francisco.

So AMD presumably isn't inviting the press along at their (AMD's) expense then? Can't be much of an announcement.... Isn't intel's IDF conference running at the same time?

No, this is a general announcement ... anyone can ask for a pass.

And yes, it is the same time as IDF.

I would appear that Interlagos has started to ship given this AMD blog post (not launched just shipped, from Dresden (wafer manufturing) to Malaysia (die packaging) to Singapore (retail packaging? and distribution to wholesalers/retailers).

Gotta love Idontcare's coverage of the blog post, particularly the image ("beware of low headroom")

This could be totally taken the wrong way, and I post this hoping folks can see the comical irony in the observation...but did anyone else find it funny that the backdrop to the Interlagos photo-op has a cautionary "beware of low headroom" notice in the background?

Prophetically appropriate given the MIA Zambezi? Image

In fact he inspired me to do my own pictorial on BullDozer's launch to date...

thats funny! haha.

We all really need BD to be competitive. It would appear that BD should be pretty profitable. I hope they get a great launch. I cant wait to see what kinda progress has been made. Its still a very interesting CPU to me

Here is the other pic that for some reason didn't show up in the other post

Apparently the latest AMD is innovation is, not content with ripping of intel model names like they did with Phenom II, they have now ripped off the "K" overclock monicker too, apparently its better and more popular with consumers (due to Sandy Bridges' success) than their own Black Edition labeling ....

Still no picture.

If your complaining on the model naming lettering or such being similar (honestly i am not sure what your saying), its a cheap shot. There are plenty of low blows you can come up with besides naming schemes. Really consumers are lost with meaningless naming from company to company. It was, afterall, intel who refused to go with a naming scheme that was actually based on performance. AMD tried to make order with meaningful names back in the athlon xp days and intel refused. Back then it was AMD that had powerful CPUs that ran at much lower speeds than intel. Intel rather marketed their higher mhz even though it meant little.

So now while you poke fun of AMD its more funny to me that it was intel which prevented a naming scheme that actually means anything when comparing CPUs cross vender.
