For what?

What can you not run?

There is so much CPU power that we don't have near enough to throw at them to even break a sweat.

Actually that is not quite true. If you are encode a lot of media, then you will want a CPU that is 10X faster than Intel's fastest CPU.

There is no such thing as "fast enough". It is what drives progress.

And to be fair, +26% over Bulldozer's fastest is not enough to catch Ivy Bridge, it's competitor.

And to be really fair, we are looking at AMD's PR slide where +26% is "best case"

Yeah I was referring mainly to the fact that AMD is way more than 26% behind Intel.

Games need a good CPU and my computer definitely feels faster with my 2500k than it ever did with the Phenom II x4.

Not enough for what? +26% is better than AMD's previous slides and leakage was the main problem with the FX series

and there doesn't appear to be any basic changes in the front end or in the pipelines except for changes to the data prefetcher being streamlined

You have to be VERY careful indeed when quoting AMD PR slides.

That 26% performance increase for piledriver is against "Husky" (Llano), not against BullDozer. It says so in white lettering above the percentage increase claims.

Thanks for clearing that up!!!

AMD Trinity transistor count revised to 1.3 billion
Quote:
Awkward ... Last year AMD revealed that its Bulldozer processor has 1.2 billion transistors instead of 2 billion, and this week Bright Side of News discovered that the transistor count of the Trinity APU also differs from the number that AMD originally supplied at launch; it's 1.3 billion and not 1.45 billion

(ROFLMAO) (hh)
