We all have strong opinions of what AMD "should have done" but the reality is what they actually have done and what direction they may take it with. i remember Phenom as being particularly unimpressive but the "II" certainly addressed those issues.
The poster in question doesn't seem to get how Intel works and really doesn't seem to know much about their CPUs compared to what they know about AMD's architecture. Phenom 1 was not nearly as bad as Bulldozer. They should not be tweaking it. The project needs to be scrapped. It needs to die. The unfortunate reality for us as enthusiasts is that AMD seems to be designing server chips as its main goal, which will benefit from 8+ cores whereas our games only need 2 cores in most situations. Piledriver may actually be an ok server/workstation CPU for some people with niche needs. Based on AMD's history it's going to be *years* before we see a project like Steamroller come out and potentially create something revolutionary for AMD. I'm not holding my breath after Bulldozer.

i doubt that Intel wants to ever crush AMD. Nvidia certainly doesn't. They do not intend for AMD to go out of business; it would be bad for their business model.

sickbeast i get your position. I get your frustrations and everything. I used to have a lot of respect for AMD and stuck with them throughout the hard times. It wasnt till recently i started thinking that AMD is not the company that i loved so dear. Not anymore.
I learned lots about the company and it wasnt what i wanted to hear.
And bringing up names or the witch hunt, it is a byproduct of the efforts. Its easy to go after these people, a natural reaction that you shouldnt be ashamed of. Everyone of us will think this person is or that person is, we cannot help it. But its not as useful to the end goal as you may think. We could boycott everyone we suspect and the casualties could be many. absolutely we would be correct on many of them but some would not. But the sad truth is we wouldnt have stopped the marketing, they would regroup and start different identities and become ever so more stealthy and manipulative. The non-marketeers that were fingered in the witch hunts would be degraded and hurt.
So the end result wouldnt be pretty. It would be painful to the innocent and the marketeers would just easily carry on with new play books and better stealth. They wouldnt miss a beat. This is the ultimate problem though. How do we address this then? Its why apoppin is trying to go above the low level pawns. Its why he makes article and trys to get noticed. We have to let AMD know that this is not something we accept and that we expect more from them. Not condemnation. We have to try to reach the higher ups, and reach them successfully. This is the real aim, and how to reach them is anyone's guess. This is where we should put our energy. Its for the long haul but its for the better. So that we all will benefit.
The witch hunt will not accomplish much. We could burn entire forums up going after members hundreds at a time but they would just step back, regroup, and become better stealth marketeers. We need to reach the decision makers and thinkers behind AMD. They need to understand that what they have going on is bad for their company. Once ppl that really matter see the bigger picture, they have the power to stop this.

I'll back off then. I just enjoy the freedom that we have to call people out here. As you said, it's a natural reaction. I hear what you're saying though and it makes sense. I'm here to discuss hardware, not to have a witch hunt.

I think intel has already tried their steamroller out on AMD, with no intention to kill, just (in intel's own words) "put AMD back in their box".

Yes, their CEO Craig Barrett did, back when Core 2 Duo launched.

A google search leads me to you saying this two years ago. Nothing turns up by Mr Barrett /viewtopic.php?t=19892#p33225gstanford wrote: I would not describe the intel payout as massive. It's aroun one tenth of what AMD should have been paid by intel.
I can still recall very vividly Intel CEO Craig Barrett gloating that they (Intel) were "going to put AMD back in their box" around the launch of the Core 2 Duo line.
One has to wonder if Craig would have said the same thing had he known the trouble Intel would land in with various countries legal systems over their treatment of AMD. I sincerely hope someone from the FTC questions him carefully over what he meant by that remark. He might end up with a box of his own, painted grey, and with steel bars....
