5-13-2010 Neil Armstrong blasts Obama's space planNeil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, blasted NASA's new plans for future space exploration Wednesday, adding that President Barack Obama was poorly advised when he canceled the space agency's previous course for U.S. human spaceflight earlier this year. Armstrong, who commanded the historic Apollo 11 moon landing mission in July 1969, criticized what he billed as an air of secrecy that preceded Obama's February announcement which cancelled NASA's Constellation program aiming for the moon. That plan, he told a Senate subcommittee, was a surprise to many among NASA, academia and the military. The United States is risking losing its role as a leader in space exploration with its new plan, Armstrong said, adding that he was concerned with the looming gap in American human spaceflight. "Other nations will surely step in where we have faltered," Armstrong said. Armstrong said he supported the idea of new players in the spaceflight arena, but was skeptical of commercial companies would be able to meet NASA's needs in a timely and cost-efficient manner. "I support the encouragement of the newcomers toward their goal of lower cost access to space," Armstrong said. "But having cut my teeth in rockets more than 50 years ago, I am not confident."

Dear Neil, your heart is in right place but our wallets are not.
50 years ago this country was doing the right thing and made things here ourselves and we had money.
Now we offshore everything and we are broke except for the multi-millionaire execs playing politics by controlling the Government and golf.
So Mr Armstrong we no longer deserve or could afford to be number one in space unless of course you are personally going to bankroll it.
Sorry but your friends sold out the country to the ones you are afraid will be number one in space.
They should have thought about that before selling out.

Armstrong just wants to be able to finally rest in peace with the moon hoax thing put aside for once and for good. I guess it ain't gonna happen because it really IS a hoax!

If they didn't take that little tin can to the moon, how did the USA fool the Soviet Union?

http://www.amazon.com/Bad-Astronomy-Mis ... 0471409766It shows so MUCH stuff about the Apollo being a hoax. Check it out at Barnes & Noble! apoppin wrote: If they didn't take that little tin can to the moon, how did the USA fool the Soviet Union? "The Soviets did not have the capability to track deep spacecraft until late in 1972, immediately after which, the last three Apollo missions were abruptly canceled."[25] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_Moo ... ccusations"On July 16, 2009, NASA indicated that it must have erased the original Apollo 11 Moon footage years ago so that it could reuse the tape." I do not think so! Yeah, the most precious tapes ever recorded in the history of mankind was erased so that those ancient out-of-date tapes could be reused for something else?? "The dog ate my homework" would have been a better excuse that did not insult our intelligence so much. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... Report.pdf This PR report done by NASA for the media was so lame. Sure, they can keep on swaying us this easily.. while keeping those 5,000+ high-def pictures that were allegedly captured by the Apollo astronauts away from the public eyes (for some undisclosed reason). I do not think so! Not over my dead body! Much more here: http://www.ufos-aliens.co.uk/cosmicapollo.html

You do realise the computer you are typing your anti NASA drivel on is a direct descendant of the Apollo Guidance Computer, and modern computers based on integrated semiconductors would not exist today if it had not been developed?

How to build one in your basement http://klabs.org/history/build_agc/Hmm, that's real neat to do! If you had all the time in the world, you'd probably be doing this, right? All I could find is that the Apollo Guidance computer just had a lot to do with driving the financial development of IC computer. It's like saying that if Bill Gates never existed, we'd never have Windows.

So, why didn't Europe or Russia develop the IC before the americans did then? After all they had just as much chance of that as writing Windows for Bill Gates.......
Necessity is the mother of invention and there was a necessity for computing power in Apollo that transistors and valves could not fulfill.
