No, not state by state. That is how Medicare works in Australia, and our hospital system is a mess due to the states not spending what they should on hospitals. The Federal Government has just had to bail out the Tasmanian Government (the state I live in) out to the tune of 350 million dollars, and they aren't very happy about it.

One of our regional hospitals got a minor refurbisment recently (basically a paint and pretty up job), at the same time nurses and admin workers were getting wages cutbacks. Part of the refurbishment involved spending $800,000 on artwork!

Do you guys have universal coverage in Australia?

I'd love to move to Australia by the way. My wife won't let me.

Yes, we do. It's called Medicare. You can opt to purchase Private health insurance if you want though, maily because our Liberals forced this option through parliament last time they were in government. They hate Medicare because it was introduced by Labor, and always work hard to undermine it whenever they find themselves in power.

The problem is expensive medicine.. in America for example, a certain prescription drug costs $1000 per month, while in Cuba the same thing cost only $30 a month. It's pretty much a generic brand that's practically identical. The drug companies in America charge insanely ridiculous amounts for the medicine, and on top of that, the doctors and hospitals charge an arm and leg for the other arm and leg that they fix. The majority of doctors in America are probably filthy millionaires.

Obamacare would be forced to address these glaring problems that plague the Americans that are already sickened with the filthy McDonalds scum that they ingest.

I'm all hoping for that the whole situation escalates the urge to reduce the cost of medicine in the face of greedy corporations as the alternative sources boom with acceptance into Obamacare policy coverage (these alternative sources are becoming more and more "popular" as we order some drugs from other countries... ONLINE, via their websites - not necessarily legal or legitimate with respect to the national FDA restrictions. And I'm also hoping that it increases the pressure on the American government to drastically promote healthier foods while banning certain preservatives banned in other countries (Japan, England) like BHT, BHA, tBHQ, and heart-clogging stuff like hydrogenated oils or modified trans fat crap. These greedy companies (like Post, Kellogg, Kebler, etc..) will be royally pissed, but hey, aren't the diseased Americans not already pissed enough in their piss-soaked death-beds in a nation that has by far and leaps and bounds the worst economical health care crisis that probably rivals all other nations combined?
