The citizens of the USA do not trust their own government. And the "right to bear arms" is guaranteed to Americans in the Bill of Rights.
That's what I meant when I talked about the risks and the benefits of allowing citizens to own guns. There is definitely a benefit, no doubt. That said, there should be strict gun laws that lock people up for life unless they're using them to combat a tyrannical government, in which case laws would become irrelevant anyway.
