It might be considered a surprise that Roberts sided with the liberal justices http://content.usatoday.com/communities ... n-718037/1Quote: Basically. the justices said that while Congress may have overreached in part with the individual mandate -- the requirement that most Americans buy health insurance or pay a fine -- the provision is held constitutional as a tax.
Chief Justice John Roberts -- a conservative appointed by President George W. Bush -- provided the key vote to preserve the landmark health care law, which figures to be a major issue in Obama's re-election bid against Republican opponent Mitt Romney It's upheld as a tax

We can't afford any more tax. There is just so much a country's people can be squeezed before they implode, and thus the economy with finally, and completely collapse. We need that asteroid and we need it soon. LOL.

There is obviously not enough taxes pillaging the people because the country is not in full scale revolt yet.

The problem is that the USA cannot afford to let it continue as it is .. and the bad thing is that there is no guarantee that health care costs won't skyrocket anyway. It's called being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I've gotta say Obama's got the right idea but the implementation is horrific. You guys should just adopt universal coverage like we have in Canada. Let the government run the whole show. Get rid of the insurance companies entirely.

You mean let the US government become the health insurer? We'd find some way to f it up (and it wouldn't be difficult)

The provinces control and fund healthcare in Canada but it is federally mandated that everyone has coverage and good standards of care, although we do suffer from long wait times.

No, not state by state. That is how Medicare works in Australia, and our hospital system is a mess due to the states not spending what they should on hospitals. The Federal Government has just had to bail out the Tasmanian Government (the state I live in) out to the tune of 350 million dollars, and they aren't very happy about it.
One of our regional hospitals got a minor refurbisment recently (basically a paint and pretty up job), at the same time nurses and admin workers were getting wages cutbacks. Part of the refurbishment involved spending $800,000 on artwork!

I'm glad it's a tax rather than a mandate. Let's say you're 35 earning 50-60k /yr. Starting n 2016 THE TAX not mandate will be kind of steep at 2,000 dollars per year if you elect to not buy insurance. Why pay 12k per year for a decent policy X 20 years = 240k. Then you will be 55 and can still gamble on another 10 years that's another 120k. Now at 65 you should buy insurance. Why 65? Well, at that age you will have at least one foot in the grave. The best part of the law is the pre existing provision. So at 65 your knees will be bad, you may have a little skin cancer, your arteries will need a little cleaning, etc. And by law that silly insurance corporation will be forced to sell you insurance. That is when you buy insurance, when you need it.... Oh... ps, that is, if there are jobs for Americans...
