Finally!
:yahoo:

This one took way too long to write. it was 3 weeks between the testing and the writing; good thing that i found my notes and some images that were mispaced

i like both coolers. They could be quieter and have better rpm controls, but especially the OCK is a very efficient cooler. Next up in the cooling department will be Noctua's flagship cooler - the NH-DH14.
-- i was planning to test it for IB, but do you think there's even a shot at 4.4GHz with my i7-920?

And i am writing the GTX 680 vs. HD 7970 overclocking article now. Will be benching the GTX 580, 590 and 560 for a 300.10 driver performance analysis this weekend.

Then IQ is next, i guess
:P

Seems to be a good review, but all the images trying to load at once is murdering my dialup!

Given the discussions we've had about the intel stock cooler, you can be sure I won't soon forget this quote, or be shy about trotting it out in future! ;)

That is NP as long as you remember the context of my statement:

It is directed to *overclockers*

Pretty much all of my CPU cooler reviews are written for overclockers

i am unsure why you are highlighting my comment about retail or cheap coolers now; i have been consistent in my views and advice-giving. And, unless i am mistaken, my same statement with slight variation occurs in ALL of my CPU cooler reviews. It is what i believe and what i do for my own cooling needs as an overclocker and who lives by my own philosophy.

i believe that the retail coolers are fine for stock speeds (but cheap/poor-quality coolers are good for nothing). If you want more than stock speeds, my advice has always been to spend more on a quality cooler that matches your needs.

OK then, ill use a slightly larger quote to make sure your context is clear.

Agreed. But it should be easy enough to install and should fit on most of the boards.I remember one cumbersome Zalman cooler.

(thy)

That does make it clear.

Choice of a CPU cooler IS critical to ANY PC build. And in some cases you can choose the retail cooler without any issues whatsoever.
