Just gaming

Plenty of typos .. i wanted to get it up on time .. i will be adding to it all day long
- it needs several more charts and maybe some graphs. And a bit more commentary.

At least it is up, with gaming results, which is the important bit. You really should try and get an updated Hyper 212+ heatsink off of CoolerMaster though. Your current one isn't representative (except to people like you with one that old and early design).

This was "on purpose"

when i post the OCCT results you will see that an outdated entry level cooler is sufficient for overclocking i7 3770K

Next up, will be exotic air cooling
(NH DH 14)

i had only a few hours with this processor and the only thing that i could focus on is gaming
- the other tech sites will cover everything else .. why repeat it? i am pretty sure this evaluation is pretty unique
:hello:

i should be done by this evening.

One very interesting detail from your chart Mark,i7 920 @4.2 is beating i7 3770K @4.2 most of the time.Looks like @ the same clocks i7 is still a beast. The triple channel memory controller is helping it quite a bit.

Actually they trade blows pretty well even with Ivy at stock. It goes to show that the GPU is by far the most important factor in PC gaming. The new CPU also shows good scaling improvement also with a mini-OC - from 3.5 (3.9 w/Turbo) to 4.2GHz.

i expect my follow-up article using faster graphics at higher resolutions will show IB to be faster at these same settings. Also, overclocking it a lot further is certainly a possibility where it will leave the old 920 in the dust.

Link me please.

How far did he get.

As long as i get over 4.5GHz, i will be reasonably satisfied.
- 5GHz is the goal.

i will finish up this evaluation tonight. Does anyone want me to run any benches tonight to add to this review? Cinebench, Fritz Chess, Custom PC benchmarks, PC Mark Vantage, Super Pi, x264? ... ??
-- i still have my results from my i7-920 testing that are valid as a comparison.

Anything else you want to see that is relatively quick to run? i can add an additional page. Is there anything else that the other reviews might not have covered that you want me to cover tonight?
:?:

Then i start back to work tomorrow with a Noctua NH-DH14 product evaluation followed by Part 2 of overclocking Ivy
