Poppin', compare an SSD to the newer WD Velociraptor drives. You are in good standing with WD, right?

No. i don't have any relations with WD. They are overpriced compared to regular fast HDDs and the difference has never been worth it. An SSD eats them alive, performance wise

(ROFLMAO)
those "aspects" you are claiming your ram improves, well ssd actually does improve them more and its like by 1000 times.

What a freakn joke! i cant believe this (ROFLMAO)

Which aspects am I claiming my ram proves? quote me please.............

your precious skyrim mods for starters. It would be sickly fast.

No it would not! Because the effect of the modding is to cause the game to render the world in more detail, and the world lives in RAM once the cells that comprise it are loaded from disk. The only time skyrim goes near my hard drives is when I enter a city or dungeon (loads a new world area) or when I load/save.

Ocre, why would anybody purchasing a system nowadays purchase only 4gb of memory? Its not as though it is expensive and your 32 bit OS is a dinosaur holding PC's back.

No one would. i would recommend anyone that is an enthusiast and a power user to have 8GB in a desktop.

My next build will be 16gb. Hopefully, the prices stay stable 'till next year ;)

I'm not saying about speed. You got a little testy when I asked you that question.
I know all about SSd's, I was just asking a question.

I know I won't be buying one until prices come down. No reason to buy one with what I do. Absolutely none.
Here we go........................... I don't trust them yet. Yep, I had to say it.

you get a small one 128gb or less even. Put your OS and your most active apps or games. This would give you all the benifits of an ssd. You keep a large secondary drive for the bulk. You can also fit a compressed backup for the ssd partition of your mechanical drive.

The ssd will make your PC really feel quicker in just about anything you do. As far as games, they load super super fast and they can actually be smoother. The average fps will not be effected in the end. But even if you game, the benifts of an SSD are unmistakable. You cannot help but be impressed.

Testy? You got a direct answer. Raptors are mostly a waste of money compared to a fast HDD.
- these evaluations have been done to death by other tech sites and there was another one a couple of months ago which said the very same thing.

Prices have come down to well below $1 a GB already. They should soon be 25% cheaper now that the HDD shortage is mostly over and more vendors are competing with each other. SSDs are every bit as reliable as HDD storage.

i don't get any commission for "talking you into one"
:D

Just saying that they are the biggest difference to a system's performance. And the price has dropped in case you haven't looked/

I already have my rig pretty much configured for next year. I mean, component wise.
Not that I won't change out a part or two when the time comes, but I do know I'm getting the 670 in June!

As for sys performance, I understand. Call me stubborn.

We are on the same page, just not the same time ;)

I just went from a seagate xt hybrid drive to a crucial m4 and came away amazed as to how well the seagate performed, real world difference wasn't that drastic.

I would recommend it for someone that can't afford a ssd or needs more storage.
