It's finally finished. Never again like this one

Way the heck too wide of a coverage and a really difficult evaluation to write because it was actually multiple evaluations covering too much.

i still have one big graph to upload and typos to fix .. then Bo's evaluation goes up tonight followed by a Tt Overseer RX-I evaluation early next week. And the EVGA MB eval will just build on this one and should be up next weekend.

Then the Video card battles begin again and i am going to do a driver analysis - Tahiti vs Kepler

wow i just started reading it!!!! found an issue with the this link:

Quote:
Before we evaluated Intel’s Core i3-2105, our last major CPU evaluation introduced AMD’s new FX “Bulldozer” architecture as we focused on performance in 20 modern games. We compared AMD’s new 8-core flagship, the FX-8150, versus Intel’s overclocked Core i7-920 and the overclocked Phenom II 980 BE X4. We concluded that the FX-8150 required a lot of power and overclocking to beat the Phenom II and to approach th

it goes to a blank page.

I know this was a huge undertaking but i am so glad to see it. Was there really no way you couldve made several articles that share some of the information? I mean its fine like it is but had you been able to separate some of this you couldve had multiple articles that could come out back to back and perhaps you would feel more accomplished. Its a lot of work but look how much you covered. You spent a lot of time on this huge undertaking and i for one am grateful. thanx for your work

another typo.

Section:
SSDs and Performance

line:

Quote:
We have performed many SSD versus HDD evaluations in the past and SSD is without question the single upgrade that will make your faster and noticeably more responsive.

we need a word between your and faster. words that might work: PC, computer, system, etc

btw, so far i am loving it. There is a lot of useful information that may surprise some people. Really, this is a read that so many could benefit from.

i dont think this really belongs were here:

Quote:
Ivy Bridge is much faster at video encoding and it wins in all three tests on our ECS motherboard while we observed on our Gigabyte Z77 motherboard, the older CPU was slightly faster at multi-tasking and image editing.

it is at the very end of this section:

CustomPC Benchmark

just before

CINEBENCH

from the charts and data presented, i didnt see any cases where then 920 was slightly faster

Actually it is from the first article and from the Gigabyte Z77MB

First the 3770K
Image
Now i7-920
Image
i no longer have this MB so i cannot repeat the tests. However, i will clarify the article and fix the typos this evening

Thank-you

Very nice evaluation lots of interesting results. The one that surprised me was how much of a difference overclocked RAM made in some of the games tested. Never thought memory speed made much of a difference in gaming.

Thank-you!

RAM was also a big surprise also to me. Before Bloomfield, overclocking the system RAM had less performance effect on gaming as i remember. And i am thinking back to Q9550 and E8600 and E4300.

Again, thank-you for your kind words. This project got way over-ambitious and it ended up encompassing an entire platform upgrade. i had way too much hardware on deck to review and everything i covered is completely related to each other.

Ideally, i could have written about 3 or 4 smaller articles. But then i would be still writing as there would be much duplication. And i would still be very far behind - much worse than i am now. i am making decisions that are not easy to make as a lot of my attention has been directed behind the scenes at ABT; helping create daily news and sharing links with our affiliated tech site, working on an upcoming regular ABT newsletter, expanding our social media contacts and working on a contest for next month. Also got Thermaltake as a sponsor - notice the new banner.

-- So - this compromise - this mega-evaluation is the most efficient way that i know how to cover everything that was covered ..... and as i said, hopefully never again like this.

i should be back on track now. After the Tt full tower evaluation (which i am writing now), expect the EVGA MB evaluation which builds on this one, a Watercooling vs Air CPU cooler shootout, and then probably a driver evaluation of Tahiti vs. Kepler since their respective launches and or product reviews (and i am still trying to get a 4GB GTX 670 and a GCN HD 7970)
