Good companies also know when to change gears.

How many people remember that intel started out as a memory manufacturer and got into processor making almost by accident (they were asked to design under contract the logic for a calculator for Busicom which led to the 4004 after intel decided they could do better than Busicom's proposed design.)

i think the point here is competing within a global economy. We see China and India spending big bucks (comparatively) on R&D although they are making money from knock-offs and cheap imitations now. They are going to be competing with the western nations on a technologically equal footing not too long in the future - and it is a challenge to adapt and survive.

i think that is what Intel may have referred to when it mentioned the macroeconomic climate in their latest earning report

Well, I've always been curious about what the arabs intend to do with GloFlo long term. They didn't just purchase it out of the goodness of their hearts or to make money from it (though those could be contributing reasons). I wonder how long until a fab outside of Israel gets built in the middle east?

It costs many billions of dollars to build a fab. That means that GloFo needs to be successful. What advantage would they have to build a fab there?

This is what i found most interesting
Quote:

. . . the consistent innovators spent less on R&D and more on developing/managing the process . . .

innovation isn’t a piece of hardware or a piece of software; it’s the product quality, performance and total customer experience.

The above is ignored by so many big companies

The arabs have many billions to spend on a fab if they want to build one (and I'll bet Iran does, Pakistan also).

Agreed on the innovation. It's a passion that drives you, it can't be faked in a corporate team think session.
