That is 6% of their workforce

Sony, now run by former PlayStation boss Kaz Hirai, is looking to reduce its global workforce by 10,000 more jobs (six percent) in an effort to stave off growing debt. The company explained that half of the cuts would come from consolidating the firm's chemicals and small and midsize LCD operations.

Additionally, seven senior managers, including Chairman Howard Stringer, are expected to give up their bonuses for the latest year, according to the Nikkei.

PlayStation's division has not formally made an announcement regarding the cuts. It doesn't appear that the PlayStation business was seriously affected. We've contacted Sony Computer Entertainment for clarification.

What is clear is that Sony has been experiencing a major downtrend in TV sales.

"Under a new CEO, it's easier to cut jobs or go in a new direction," said Yuuki Sakurai, head of fund manager Fukoku Capital.

"One of the things I'd like to see is that they shift their resources to other areas outside TVs ... If they stick to TVs, they may have to fight a war they may not be able to win."

Sony has been in the red for four years now, with 2011 spelling a $2.7 billion net loss due largely to failing TV sales

That's huge.

Sony's Walkman and now their TVs aren't doing well any more.

Samsung has been a predator and Apple's iPod has been a big deal as well.

They will recover. Sony has some smart people working for them and some talented industrial designers.

They are expecting to LOSE $6.4 billion Dollars

Quote:
it expects the largest loss in the company's 65-year history for the fiscal year ended on March 31, 3012. The net loss is expected to total 520 billion yen ($6.4 billion), more than double the previously projected loss of 220 billion yen ($2.73 billion). According to Fox Business, the expanded loss is tied to deferred United States tax assets.

This follows Sony's announcement that it would be slashing its workforce by 6 percent (10,000 jobs). Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai is expected to reveal his turnaround plan for the company this Thursday.

"We consider the current situation to be very serious," said chief financial officer Masaru Kato in a press conference. "We will take resolute measures to transform our business without protecting any sacred cows."

Since becoming CEO, Hirai has already reshuffled Sony's corporate structure around with a new strategy dubbed "One Sony".

Sony is in a serious trouble lately. The PS3 incident was anything but professional. It seems their brand image has taken a nosedive.
