Introduction

It's been a long while since we've looked at a hard drive, and how fitting that it be a new model of the Western Digital VelociRaptor!
Western Digital appears to be on a somewhat fixed 2-year cycle with these, as out 600GB VelociRaptor Review went up two Aprils ago, and the 300GB two years prior to that. Well then, let's take a look at this new model!
WD 1TB VelociRaptor review

250G @ $160 ($0.64 / GB)
500G @ $210 ($0.42 / GB)
1TB @ $320 ($0.32 / GB)

It looks like i am moving to SSD since i now have 2 x 240GB which capacity finally just makes it really useful for my gaming PC. And with Intel's SSD caching, it will be pretty fast.

i'd like to have a fast HDD for storage, however. There is no question that they are bang for buck over SSD which can't come close to $1 per GB except for sales.

Wow, finally a Velociraptor can match a 15000 RPM Seagate Cheetah 600GB drive from 3 years ago! 1TB is nice, but $320 still makes it a poor choice compared to spending $200 on an SSD and $100 on a 1TB 7200 rpm drive.
