Seriously, I didn't pay too much attention when folks said prices had risen, but Jeez..... Products that were like $80 last year are $120-160 in some instances now. I regret holding off.

Anywhere to pick up cheap Hard drives? Doubt it.....But I thought I'd ask.

What capacity?

And now isn't a bad time to pick up a SSD; they have fallen well below $1 a GB for good ones.

Right now - 2TB Deskstar for $110

They are all still current - 320 GB for $60 and a 750GB Seagate Momentus for $80

I would go SSD, but I need a lot of space. I was originally looking at the 1tb, but now that prices have literally skyrocketed, I'll probably have to settle for something near 500gb.

Seems so silly. Damn floods.

BTW, thanks for the link. There are other good deals there too.

Edit: My Dvd drive also committed suicide today (for whatever reason)........I guess it's time to upgrade again.

the floods were a serious event but i think there was issues before then. Harddrive prices were rock bottom. The competition was fierce for a slowing market. They were all heading towards a wall in a fast way. The floods were catastrophic but mechanical drive manufactures were already on a dangerous path. Now that the smoke has cleared, everyone has cut their loses. They all have come down a notch or two and no one is ready to be selling drives with such little profit anymore. I dont expect that prices will ever get as crazy cheap anymore. Things have leveled out.

This higher price is a result of the markets shifting. The PC has slowed down big time. Things have changed. Computers are moving from thre desk to the hand. The solid state is the future. We have reached a turning point and are witnessing the beginnings of the new era.

There is still a place for mechanical drives with their longevity and capacities. We will still have companies making hard drives for a long while to come. But as the computer world shifts, this market becomes more exclusive. I think it will be a very long time before we see data storage as cheap as it once was. Those days will surely be missed. I know i wont forget them. But as a result of these higher prices, SSD drives become more attractive. They sell more and their prices are falling as we speak......

We are at a turning point in technology

That 2tb Hitachi looks good for $110.

That said I paid $50 for my 1tb Hitachi close to 2 years ago now.

Nice links. Too bad I missed em. :D I got the DVD thing sorted out. Still not sure why it suddenly died, but whatev......

I also bought a Hyper 212+ Plus on impulse due to rave reviews (and because of Sick Beast's previous suggestion). This thing is huge. LOL. And I hate the idea of having to remove my motherboard just to screw in a back plate and....blah, blah. I just hate the idea of removing the damn thing in general; particularly when I'm not sure if this thing will entirely fit.

I'm half tempted to take it back and get a Hyper TX3 or Vortex Plus instead. Not sure.

What kind of an overclock are you looking for? It's a pretty entry-level cooler. Your case doesn't have an access port for your CPU cooler?
- you mean you have to remove your MB just to change a cooler?
