SANTA CLARA, CA -- (MARKETWIRE) -- 04/01/13 -- NVIDIA today announced five new notebook GPUs which deliver a trifecta of technologies that seamlessly and automatically maximize a consumer's notebook performance and experience.

With no effort or input from the notebook user, the technologies work in the background to save battery life, enhance performance and enrich the visual experience -- providing the best notebook experience the GPU can deliver. They include:

New NVIDIA GPU Boost™ 2.0 technology, which intelligently adjusts GPU clock speed to maximize graphics performance.
NVIDIA® Optimus™ technology, which enables extra-long battery life by switching the GPU on and off so it runs only when needed.
GeForce® Experience™ software, which adjusts in-game settings for the best performance and visual quality specific to a user's notebook and keeps GeForce drivers up to date.

Incorporating all three of these technologies, the new lineup of NVIDIA GeForce 700M GPUs includes GeForce GT 750M, GeForce GT 745M, and GeForce GT 740M GPUs for the performance segment, as a well as GeForce GT 735M and GeForce GT 720M GPUs for the mainstream segment.

NVIDIA GeForce 700M GPUs are available today. Every leading notebook manufacturer will be introducing notebooks with GPU Boost 2.0 technology, including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba.

Five new notebook GPUs in the GeForce 700M series were revealed. They follow the usual Nvidia naming convention: The GeForce GT 750M, GT 745M and GT 740M are targeted at the performance segment while the GeForce GT 735M and GT 720M will be found in mainstream laptops. Two other models in the GeForce 700M series, the GeForce 710M and 730M, were revealed in January without any fanfare.

Given that the successor to Nvidia's current Kepler GPU architecture is only due next year (code-named Maxwell), it's likely that these new notebook GPUs are refreshes of the existing GeForce 600M series. It's a rather common strategy used by both AMD and Nvidia, the two major discrete graphics players

It is probable that these new 700M notebook GPUs are Kepler refreshes of the current 600M series. It is very common for Nvidia and AMD to rebrand, rename or refresh their notebook series every year whether there is new architecture or not. New architecture for Nvidia – Maxwell on 20nm - is expected next year and Volta is the codename for their GPU architecture in 2016.

The real launch is likely to coincide with Intel’s Haswell update later in Q2 2013. When that comes along, we're likely to see some additional 700M updates from NVIDIA on the high end (again, echoing what happened with the 600M and 680M launches). Just don't count on seeing a mobile variant of Titan/GK110 for a while yet; I'd peg that level of performance as something we won't see in laptops until we have two more process shrinks under our belts (i.e. when TSMC is at 16nm).

Each will also come with the GeForce Experience software, which allows optimised defaults for popular games to be instantly downloaded and applied - and which forms a central part of the Project Shield game streaming system, which the new GeForce 700M chips should fully support.
