This is a great deal IMO. The stock cooling sucks though so don't try overclocking unless you upgrade it.

Is this the card I paid $600 for?

nope. That was for HD 7970.

They are down to around $450 now and still dropping ... We expected this to happen and i predicted it. AMD priced them high and dropped the pricing when the GTX 680/670 came out. Now they are selling off their older models and bring out a new higher-clocked "GHz" edition at $500

AMD has become way too predictable and painfully slow to react to market forces - and it will show in their financial statement.

I think that now AMD is finally competitive and nVidia has nothing to go up against them at $300. Perhaps the GTX 660 will if it ever comes out.

I think their CPU division is dragging them down right now. Their GPUs are very competitive.

Their CPU division has been dragging AMD down since Bulldozer launched; many many months.

AMD's problem is one of perception. Kepler is perceived as a much better deal. AMD bungled the Tahiti launch imo and there is no way to fix it any longer. They lost this round in the public eye and they did not know how to get it back while it was still salvageable.

Whoever is directing AMD's strategy is lost for this year.
