Microsoft is giving Windows its most radical overhaul since 1995 and even its most devoted users won’t recognize the venerable computer operating system in this new incarnation, called Windows 8

Yep, every word in that article describes what I've been experiencing on Windows 8 on my friend's computers! :hello:

Apple, you better run!!!!!! (At least buy AMD with your overvalued assets, while there's still any amount of ripe sweet-ness left in the company, and also buy Globalfoundries for a better chance in the future against the likes of Microsoft, Samsung, Intel, Qualcomm, and Nvidia! It'd be very easy for Apple to go back to its "small status" like it was during the 90's, in pretty much everything.)

Well, for regular PC's, there is a learning curve to it, just like with anything revolutionary in how we interact with the OS.

If one already has lots of experience with iOS and Android, then it would be easier and more intuitive to adapt to Win8 from Win7.

The real treat is with touchscreen PC's - especially laptops. My friend is absolutely in love with his touchscreen laptop - it makes his laptop feel like an Ipad!!

It's a good move by MS, and a quite bold one!! Keeping up with the future, that is!!

If any of you guys ever get a laptop, make sure it's a touchscreen one!!!! On Win8, it's 1000x better than using the painfully inconvenient touchpad on ordinary laptops. A few months later from now, the demand for touchscreen laptops will be 5-10x than what it is now - those on Ebay that are now worth $400 would easily go over $600 by Xmas at the very least!!! Mark my words!!

That's all I want, a touchscreen monitor with fingerprints on it all the time :yahoo:

Win 8 is suited for touchscreens. It may drive display sales as it adds over $100 to the cost of a comparable notebook.

There are also going to have to be applications that really work well for desktop touch to drive adoption or else Windows 7 is 'good enough' :P

My personal "gripe" about Win8 is that the programs, etc.. in the start menu is actually much more inconvenient on PC's without a touchscreen. For example, to shut down the PC, I have to go thru an additional step, which was difficult to figure out at first. Good luck with finding the programs on the start menu, guys!! :hello:

Managing the start menu will also get hairy as more and more programs are installed, literally littering the Metro-themed screen!

Well, my kids touch the family's laptop screen all the time, so it's inevitable anyways. Just turn up the brightness and the fingerprints shouldn't be too noticeable! :P

Still, Win8 is totally worth it IMHO. It's fun and interesting.. hopefully the drivers are optimized so that all games run just as fast on Win8 as on Win7. Remember BFG10K being so disgruntled with many of his games running so much slower on Vista than on XP, which was also my experience for the first couple years of Vista.

Oh, and I forgot to mention one thing - Win8 boots up much faster than Win7. It makes even a 5400rpm drive feel like an SSD, seriously!
