Ok lets talk Vista, I know I am not the only person stuck with a version of Vista, and having to learn how to navagate through the endless prompts and inquiries from the "Vista Gods" before being allowed to make a move. I am seeking tweaks and tricks to out smart the beast. I am sure any information will save a few machines from being hurled across the room.

Well, if you need help, you need to tell us exactly what the problem is. If by endless prompts you are referring to the User Account Control (UAC), that can be turned off. A lot of people find it intrusive. Just give us some more details.

The first thing I do on my friend's laptops etc, is turning of UAC. Besides that, Vista takes a little getting used to when you're coming from XP, but in a few days you don't want to go back anymore. Make sure you have SP1 installed by the way.

I'm personally skipping Vista altogether. An operating that can't even manage basic file copying reliably should have never been released to the public.
Windows 7 is just around the corner and is looking to correct many of the faults of Vista.

Windows 7 is just around the corner and is looking to correct many of the faults of Vista. Me too. I really wish they would just re-release XP with DirectX 10 support. In fact the company would score a whole lot better PR wise if they admitted they made a mistake and not take the same road as Bush in not admitting they made a mistake.

Basic file copying ? explain ? Tbh, I've been running Vista 64x for over a year now, and have had no problems at at all. Only rivatuner won't run because it's not certified, but that's it, and there's a fix for it ...
Not sure if ANY gamer should skip Vista, you're missing out on the dx10 goodness for quite a while now, and Vista 7 ain't here yet ... MS released Vista to early, I'll grant you that, but for a year or longer Vista = XP in terms of stability and speed, or is even better, and more secure to boot ... If you don't like it, you should be running OSX or Linux instead ...

I must say that I have to agree with Marc on this one. I'm also running Vista x64 and it has been superb. I have had a much better experience with it than I've ever had with XP.

When I bought Vista for this new game machine I am building I don't know why I didn't get the 64 bit version.
It sounds like it is much better than the 32bit version.
