Hey all,

Whenever I'm not gaming or watching a movie or so, I'm usually running a Folding@Home GPU client on my 8800GTS 320MB card for TeAm AnandTech (for now...maybe until ABT has enough members to make a nice folding team :-bd ).

I went out yesterday, leaving it to run as usual but when I came back, I noticed that the entire system was frozen. No response to anything. I had to hit the reset button to make the system reboot.

When I did that, the first thing I realized was some green vertical lines on the Rampage Formula screen and then some red ones in the post screen. When the Windows Vista load screen came up, there were some gray lines. After the load screen flicked off, the gray lines remained but then there was nothing else happening. The HDD activity LED went off and nothing else happened.

I rebooted, reset, cold booted, I tried several things and nothing worked. I then swapped out the GTS for a "spare" 8400GS I had lying around and everything booted fine, no lines, no problems.

Is my GTS dead???
Is there a solution to get it working (properly) again??

Please help!!!

Warranty??!!??!.....I've had it since July or August 2007. Its an EVGA card. I don't even know if the warranty is still on it.

Just my luck.....the SAPPHIRE HD 4870 1GB Toxic Edition.....which I would have just bought now instead of waiting until Black Friday......is OUT OF STOCK!!!!

:( :( :(

Well, I was planning on getting a 4870 1GB card around Black Friday but obviously I won't be able to wait until then, so I might just pull the trigger in about a half an hour or so.

I really wanted the SAPPHIRE HD 4870 1GB Toxic Edition card but that went OOS just about an hour before I decided to just buy a new card.

Which of the other cards would you guys suggest from here??

if you registered it with EVGA within 30 days , then warranty should be for lifetime i believe.

sapphire looks good, but sapphire RMA is not good i have heard . they charge $15 for RMA

Well Dave, I did flog the crap out of my card...it did 15 months hard labour!! =))
Both gaming and Folding@Home...almost no rest time recently. I will however check out the RMA procedure as I do recall registering the card with EVGA. However, it might be of academic interest only but we'll see...

Anyway...

I pulled the trigger on the HIS HD 4870 1GB.

I think its a good card and I don't really think I'll be missing anything much from the Toxic. Give me your thoughts please and thanks.

not sure about HIS warranty, if you were going with a stock cooler you should have gone with Visiontek's Lifetime warranty
