I think I have enough now to rate Geforce GT 545.. the hardest challenge ever! Xbitlabs has been doing some more benchmarks on it in game performance reviews. Wish me good luck - I'll be back with a rating!

Thanks.. yeah, there are 2 versions - the DDR3 and the GDDR5 version. They have different bus widths (128-bit and 192-bit) and also different number of ROPs according to Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_500_Series ) . I do not even know where the Wikipedia editor got that info from.. but it's probably a very good guess given that the ROPs have always been tied with the bus. I went ahead and rated them at 48 and 56 VP respectively. Yay, now it's outta the way.. it was just very very difficult to try to approximate the overall gaming conditions, taking the shader muscle, texturing power, memory bandwidth, and ROP back-end output all into perspective, while making sure it's in-line with other similarly-performing cards like 8800GTX and not coming too close to GTS 450 or being slower than 8800GT that has far lesser specs. The DDR3 memory seems to be severely bottlenecking the GT 545.. only the 24 ROPs seem to allow it to do fairly well with 4x AA as Xbitlabs has shown, but with AA turned off, the 6670 with only 8 ROPs would come out ahead.

Leaving for Thanksgiving holiday for the week to my friend's new apartment in Manhattan.. when I come back, I think I need to do an investigation to see whether the HD 6670 behaves like a VLIW4 GPU or VLIW5 one, like I concluded the Barts architecture to be based on VLIW4 rather than VLIW5 as one of the slideshows from AMD stated (since the performance of Barts being nearly 20% higher than possible if it were VLIW5 would only be possible with VLIW4).

Update: Added Geforce GTX 560 Ti-448 1.25GB, at 146 VP! Does it seem right?

It should be at reference clocks, well ahead of the GTX 560 Ti and just behind the GTX 570. The FTW version is mostly equal with the GTX 570.

This by far is the best GPU list on the internet. Tom's has something similar, but for a quick compare, this wins hands down!!

Keep up the good work! \m/

UPDATE: Added HD 7970, rated at 217 VP!

(21% faster than GTX 580 for now.. will update with more accuracy after seeing more benchmarks from the likes of techreport, xbitlabs, and hopefully Alienbabeltech! Also, the performance improvements with future driver revisions remain to be seen.) Keep in mind that the dual-GPU cards are still penalized by 15% in the Voodoopower ratings due to microstuttering still being present, plus the lack (or the "slight") of multi-GPU scaling in some games like Batman:AC, Skyrim, etc... etc..

Looks like NV and AMD will soon have to stop selling discrete video cards with less than around 15 VP soon, for things to make business sense - with the onslaught of higher-performing graphics-integrated CPU's. Soon, all of the low-end and mid-range CPU's will also have integrated GPUs performing between 15 and 35 VP. (see http://alienbabeltech.com/abt/viewtopic ... 174#p41174 for a quick comparison to the cards with 15-35VP )

By the way, there's still shame on AMD for pulling a Radeon HD 5450 DDR2 version.. just to save a couple bucks on the DDR2 memory, the performance becomes rotten for all games released within the last several years. Thankfully, NV has not pulled anything like a Geforce 205 again this time around, thus being the leader for the gaming world. The lowest so far from NV was the GT 520, rated at 23.9 VP which is not far behind from AMD's first Llano Fusion offering.

AMD's Llano has set the bar much higher for "standardized" graphics performance (like with integrated audio on the motherboard for example). Do we ever see sound cards with worse performance than mobo audio any longer? At least the HD 6450 (AMD's slowest offering for the 6-series) is 3 times faster than HD 5450. See the trend!

How soon is soon?

The older IG can still be upgraded to a HD 5450 for very cheap right now; there are millions of MBs with HD2000 graphics, for example

Who, in their right sense, would want to upgrade a motherboard with functional HD2000 graphics for 2D graphics on the monitor want to upgrade to a HD 5450 -- what for??? It's already completely worthless (only useful for a backup "emergency" video card if you do not already have integrated video, to be used in case your video card fails). A useful $5 piece of silicon, indeed...

But you're right, it won't be that soon (I presume that's what you were implying).. at least not until the next generation when all of the older video cards rated at less than 20 Voodoopower will become commonly useful junk worth no more than $5 apiece on Ebay (as the market becomes flooded with them, just like with floppy or CD-ROM drives).

Nothing less than 20 VP in about 2 years, give or take a few months depending on how dumb Intel is...
