I am going to make this a continuing thread from here on out. I'll update the OP and add to the thread each month with results so we can have a central thread in which to compare and discuss what is PC gaming's only large scale public survey on what hardware and OS's gamers are using.

NOVEMBER 2012 RESULTS
Windows 8 more than doubled it's number of steam users, moving up 2.4% to 4.25%. Windows 7 64-bit also dropped by a substantial 1.22%, down to 58.58% (72.56 total Win7 users).

29.47% have 1920x1080 resolution displays.
3.54% have 1920x1200.
0.78% have 2560x1440.
0.21% have 2560x1600.

43.02% have a Quad core or higher CPU (will monitor adoption rate each month).
53.14% of steam users are fully DX11 enabled (will monitor adoption rate each month).
53.13% have an Nvidia GPU, 34.92% use an AMD GPU, and 11.53 are using a lowly Intel solution.
23.43% of steam users have 4 gigs of system ram, while 29.74% have 8 gigs or more.

The big take away from this month: there was a large proliferation of low end computers surveyed by steam. 1366x768 was the resolution that registered the largest increase in use, while discrete graphics cards, high resolution displays, and quad core processors all took a hit in the amount of usage.

I like the 3DMark Popular hardware info as well, it might have got me a 3 month ban on Anand but I find the information worthy of knowing.

Interestingly since my post about it things have changed, 670 and 680 are 1 and 2, while now the 7950 and 7970 are 3 and 4, 560Ti is still in it at number 5.

No doubt this is a result of AMD's price cuts and game bundles, as was assumed and infraced for in another world.

Of course it's probably not as accurate as Steam, I'm not exactly sure how they sample for their results but it's still a piece of a puzzle.

I believe.

I dunno if there is a better source for the information, but it pops up when you do a search...

Again though without knowing their sample duration/size it's a bit hard to really gauge it.

I'm pretty sure the Ivy Bridge i5 isn't as popular as the i5-2500k, but it's ahead of it in their results... Basically I think it's just showing a set period of time - maybe a few weeks of what the most tested hardware is on their site.

Maybe I should take a moment out of my life to send them an e-mail requesting that information...

That can't be "all time" though right? Surely older more mainstream cards have graced the mark... Though perhaps not since it is more of an "enthusiast" site/bench.

I updated the original post with the graphics breakdown. Of interesting note, there has a REALLY big shift favoring Nvidia users on the behalf of both Intel and (mostly) AMD GPU users this month. A glitch in the survey or something else?
