It should be about 10% faster than a gtx580 but the gtx580 goes for about $428AR shipped now on newegg.

I'd go for a single gtx580 card thats 10% slower and 99$ cheaper, with no crossfire worries any day.

This card needs a 75$ price cut to be feasable.

It's a unique product and probably is at its the suggested list price. Cards always debut there and then market pricing tends to take hold within a couple of weeks.

The first week or two is critical for HW (and games) to sell as many as possible with a high margin.

Agreed! Just a niche product.. and the board designer wants to be compensated for all of the hard work.
The 5970 is also going for much cheaper (second-hand).
