Curious. Why AMD for 2 cycles?

Is that wash followed by rinse?

Seriously though, how much better could the upcoming 7xxx cards be? Wouldn't the 7870 2gb, more than likely, be just as good as 6950; despite be superior in specs? Or am I being ridiculous?

It's a gamble this time.
AMD's current architecture has been around for quite a few generations of cards.
They're now going for an all-new architecture, which bears remarkable similarities to Fermi, both in overall design (no more VLIW) and in features (more focus on GPGPU/HPC).
It's too early to tell. It could be great (this might be the one where AMD fixes their tessellation), or it could be a dud.

Are we really sure the new architecture is really "all new" or a hybrid?
-- and it is always a gamble. But not usually for buying older-gen cards; their price usually drops

LOL. No, I've owned mostly Nvidia cards, and enjoyed a change.

According to this, yes: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4455/amds ... or-compute
They're going from VLIW to SIMD (scalar threading like nVidia). That's basically rotating the exceution model around 90 degrees.

Well, I'd say nVidia is the better card at the moment.
AMD's next generation is following nVidia's current design, and there's good reason for that.
nVidia gives you better tessellation and GPGPU today, which means DX11 games run better. And then there's the extras, such as CUDA/PhysX acceleration and their 3D Vision... if you're into that sort of thing.
Aside from that, the recent release of Rage showed nVidia's superior driver quality yet again.

:P

i think you really want to buy a new video card. You must be sick of your old one.
- i'd say go for a new card and do not look back.

As to the architecture, some sources were saying some of it would still be VLF4
- maybe the midrange .. another, i guess we'll see .. it might be like bulldozer
:hello:

Speaking of FX-8150, 2 x 775W PSUs weren't enough to run it overclocked at 4.4GHz
- running overclocked HD 6990 and HD 6970 was fine when the CPU was at stock.

To get it stable, i had to use my 850W PSU and a 775W PSU
--850W just for the PC (O/C'd 8150 and HDD plus optical drive; fans) including 1 x HD 6970 and 1 PCIe slot for 75W; the other 775W PSU is devoted to the overclocked HD 6990 (pulling over 400 at peak; 75W additional is fed by the PCIe slot and the 850W PSU)

Overclocked, the FX really eats power...
Keeps my feet warm :tease:

I think most Radeon owners are permanently set to the Spin Cycle.....
