That's kind of strange because in Wolfenstein and other OpenGL games, AMD's performance is much higher than Nvidia's. Other reviewers have noted it besides myself. i haven't got Rage. i am getting BF3, however

Kyle said this also, which may or may not be shocking:
"I have actually heard statements at id about how much the company hates ATI/AMD since the whole Doom III leak years ago. I belive id would have no problem "sticking it to AMD" by going CUDA. Just my 2 cents."
Are they willing to shaft gamers to get revenge on AMD? I hope not.

Anyway, I doubt it'll be a disaster for AMD; particularly when the whole game has been receiving negative press from the PC community. I guess AMD can breath a sigh of relief, eh?
LOL!

i never thought that Rage was going to be particularly important. Isn't Doom IV supposed to be *the* sixty dollar playable OpenGL tech demo?

The only way a card like that is worth it is if you're going to get two of them, and even then, you're going to wind up with a ton of heat in your case that you somehow have to deal with. That isn't necessarily true. I can't speak for AMD 2gb cards, but my 2gb GTX 460's run stone cold since switching to Sandy Bridge. The whole system runs cold, which is a welcome change from when it was an AMD cpu in there and the entire system ran very warm. I'm talking games like Crysis 2 here and Gothic 3 cranked with 4x SG-SSAA + SLI AA too, not Solitaire or Minesweeper.

gstanford, AMD's GPUs run about 10C hotter compared to nVidia, however AMD's cards use significantly less electricity. If your Phenom II ran hot you were doing something wrong. Mine doesn't exceed 50C under full load. Your GTX 460s with 2gb of vram are great, but they're not widely available, and you're stuck looking for an obscure motherboard that supports SLI. For what you paid for your computer, I could have had enough extra cash for a nice monitor and printer compared to what I spent. The AMD cards look like they will perform very well in Battlefield 3 as well.

You are missing out on a good game. Most of the flaws have been worked out now, and SG-SSAA eliminates the "texture wobble" that happens without AA or normal MSAA (beards and moustaches appear and disappear constantly, building walls "shimmer" etc).

The only reason nForce AMD boards became "obscure" is because AMD pushed nvidia out of their chipset business. SLI certainly isn't obscure on modern intel platforms.
