That they're getting rid of lower-binned GPU' for a premium without wasting time trying to fit them an established group (making them slower)? They're just selling as is?

Got it.

Wonder what the 7000 series gimmick will be? AMD's first new 3d physics engine!

Nah, I think that Nvidia is doing so well with the GF110 (GF100b) yields that only a few of them are slightly defective. All they would need to do is castrate just a few more shaders than the 570 (480 shaders, and reduce it to 448), and then call it a 560 Ti-448 Limited Edition. Also, the TMU's were reduced from 60 to 56. There were probably so few of those defective chips that NV did not need to give it a new GTX 565 nomenclature (the number 565 just sounds unattractive and low-end anyways.. probably too boring, technical or uninspired, and NV doesnt want us to think it's another GTX 465 castrated red-headed bastard step-child).

What puzzles me though is how much better it performs than the GTX 560 Ti (GF114). It has only like 2% less shader performance (after multiplying the Mhz and # of shaders). It also has substantially greater texturing power (64 TMU's at a much higher clock). The ROP back-end output capacity is also nearly identical. It seems that the only difference that really stands out is the bandwidth.. and I already thought that the 560 Ti (GF114 with 384 shaders) was somewhat bandwidth-bottlenecked with only a 256-bit bus. It's a shame that NV could never get to clock GDDR5 as high as AMD could with their 6970 (5500MHz vs 4000MHz).

The only other MAIN difference is that the GF110 has twice as many polymorph (tessellation) engines as the GF114, but it does not account for such a big performance difference (nearly 15%) overall in most games.

Glad to see you too see some strangeness with this card. It's right at the 570's heels. Maybe Nvidia does have a bunch of low-bin cards to sell-off. If they don't, then this release really will be "limited." That would make sense though, otherwise the card would be ridiculous. So no gimps, just low-bins.

It's an excellent card though.

According to Nvidia, they had a PILE of chips that were made into the 448 Core Ti. Enough for a big holiday release in Europe and North America

My feeling is that AMD will introduce HD3D over not only 3x1 Eyefinity but also for 6x2 configurations; their emphasis will probably be on GPU computing and maybe we will even get some GPU physics in game (doubtful).
:hello:

One thing is noticeably for sure - Nvidia ceased production of GF110 some time ago. A quick glance on newegg of the total number of gtx570's and gtx580's versus which ones are still in stock and not permanently "sold out" is skewed. Hopefully they timed the cease production better than they did with the GT200.

Not long after the first pictures of AMD's Tahiti leaked, we have a detailed shot of Tahiti's PCB, which reveals more details. The 12 memory chips are clearly visible, confirming the 384-bit memory bus. It also offers a first glimpse at the Tahiti die.

384-bit bus :yahoo:

So after bashing Fermi for it's size and GPGPU and odd memory bus....AMD is going to try their own....on a new process. That should be interesting. Although I'm still not convinced that the next card they release will be "GCN". I have a feeling it will be based off of 5xxx/6xxx with some added fluff.

I'm guessing "GCN" stands for Gimped Canandian Nvidia ripoff.......

"Following our checks in Asia this week, we believe NVDA's January quarter is tracking below plan. We believe the company's GeForce (GPU), Quadro, and Tesla businesses combined are down about 10-12% Q/Q, with Quadro/Tesla somewhat weaker than GPU," Susquehanna Financial analyst Chris Caso wrote in a note to clients.

In November, the company indicated that it expected Quadro to be up sequentially, Tesla to be flat, desktop GPU to be up sequentially and notebook GPU flat to slightly down. In total, Nvidia guided revenue flat, plus or minus 2 percent sequentially.

"We think the company is significantly below that plan at this point in the quarter. Given that Chinese New Year is occurring in late January, we think the channel will be loathe to take on additional inventory ahead of the slowdown, preferring to work through existing inventory," Caso said.

On a positive note, lead times for the company's enthusiast product line (GTX570/580/590) are up, indicating strong demand, which should help average selling prices in the quarter.

Meanwhile, the analyst said Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NYSE: AMD) is having supply issues on its high-end GPU product, which theoretically could benefit Nvidia as a share gainer. But Caso believes the company has not been able to take advantage of AMD's struggles due to a lack of wafer supply.
