TBH I'm shocked that you guys are downplaying the 7970 when it's the best single GPU currently available market, and it's priced fairly in comparison to the GTX 580.

Give it a few months and I'm sure it will cost $300-400 and we'll see a bunch of people buying them.

I'm actually starting to agree with the sentiment at AnandTech that this place is developing an nVidia bias.

WE DON'T NEED NO MODERATION either. Pink Floyd said it well, albeit about something else. ;)

What the heck are you even talking about?

And forget the 7970, i want to see what value the 7950 can bring us.

This is the card that will be 300-400$, and its the one i am waiting for.

What do you need clarification about? The general lack of a need for moderation, or the fact that the 7970 is the best single GPU on the market right now? The nVidia bias?

You're one of a handful of genuine enthusiasts who posts here without a clear bias.

There are several others that come on here like a pack of rabid wolves high on methamphetemines with their nVidia bias. It's stupid.

Well, I have not yet really played much in HD3D except at the local Microcenter store with their "display" PC and 3D glasses.. and I have to say that it sucks. IZ3D actually has better support for stereoscopic 3D.. in fact, far better support for it. AMD is supposedly trying to use IZ3D and TriDEF, while making it look like as if it's AMD's own effort but I'm not still sure about that though, if things have changed already. For some games, the depth of 3D cannot be configured (user-configurable), and it hardly looks 3D at all - when the depth should be "full" rather than say, a literal centimeter into or beyond the monitor's surface.

Well, TriDef SW is supposed to also work with Nvidia cards. At least it is supposed to work with the ViewSonic V3D231 and GeForce cards and i am going to set it up tonight to check it out.

The demos that TriDef are almost sickening the way stuff pops WAY out of the screen at you. Some of it is convincing and the games look OK except for the 540 vertical resolution. i have also spent a LOT of time on the TriDef forums

ANYway, back to this thread. CrossFire-X3 - HD 7970 TriFire appears to scale pretty good

There's little to complain about here when looking at the performance. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's just the nature of the beast when it comes to these three card setups. What we're seeing, though, is that under the most intensive situations, gains of 200% can be seen over a single GPU setup. This is only a good thing when it comes to testing in the most intensive games.

Throw this all in with the fact that AMD are saying that they still don't have an "official" CrossFire driver yet and it's pretty easy to get excited about what's going on. As we see more and more HD 7000 series cards come into the mix, we're no doubt going to be able to see some awesome combinations of cards here.

The same goes for IZ3D (also working with NV cards). IZ3D has excellent free support for anaglyph glasses (red/blue or any other color) glasses, that even exceeds Nvidia's quality for some games (like Bioshock or Portal). An excellent site/forum for 3D is www.mtbs3d.com.. I've been a forum poster there since a few years ago. :hello:

By the way of the tangent, anybody remember SharkyExtreme.com? It used to be an awesome hardware site from 10-15 years ago, but then slacked off seriously ever since. I used to also love geek.com and the freakishly geeky talk over there about SSD's and L3 caches that were so far off away from the time. Geek.com is still hanging, but actually not as vibrant as it used to be, without GoatGuy and the likes..

i used to like SharkeyExtreme. Their tech site was refreshing for its time. Is it still around or was it sold? Toms Hardware is just not the same; it lost the personality of its owner. They are looking for writers/reviewers now (as we are - but they pay cash). Mostly i stayed at ATF forum although i did like ARSTechnica and posted there for awhile. Especially in their PC gaming discussions. Beyond3D forum also until i realized that my posts would be censored if you didn't stay in line with what the mods felt was appropriate. But i don't think they will forget my posting an accurate Fermi roadmap long before 280 came out; my contacts were amazing.

And from what it looks like to me now, you can use the scan interleave with a 60Hz display and TriDef, correct? Certainly with anaglyph.
I am finding that it is good for "entry level" 3D and for the kids, i think. But not on the level of 3D Vision 2.

i got access denied from your link :P

ahh, 2 dots.. .. should not be a dot there. http://www.mtbs3d.com and http://www.sharkyextreme.com it's showing only the recommended CPU builds and the forum topics for now (unlike much much more once upon a time long time ago).

Hmm, didn't know about the scan interleave with TriDef. I've only toyed around with IZ3D along with my 3D Vision kit (and HD3D at the local Microcenter store). For IZ3D, I had to make sure that the frame rate stayed above refresh rate for S3D (not anaglyph, but alternating LRLR stereoscopic shutterglasses) to work consistently without graphical corruption.. it was very hard to do, even in games based on older engines like Portal. Nvidia could not make the portal itself (the entrance into the portal) show anything inside - it was just black.. while IZ3D could preserve the graphical lens effects in the portal, showing what could be seen through it.
