http://www.nordichardware.com/news/71-g ... ected.html Quote: The new Cape Verde circuit comes with less Radeon cores than Radeon HD 6770 and 6750, which it replaces. The GCN architecture is more efficient than the VLIW5 based version that is used with the older cards, so hopefully AMD has managed to get more performance from HD 7770 and HD 7750. They will both bring pretty high frequencies, especially HD 7770 that starts at 1000 MHz, or 1 GHz if you like that better.
If above is correct AMD will only bring a marginal boost with lower energy consumption and hopefully low price. With only five days to go we don't have to wait for long to see what the real deal is. http://www.techpowerup.com/160476/Radeo ... rk-11.html Quote: AMD's Radeon HD 7770 mid-range graphics card, which is slated for a little later this month, got its first public shot at 3DMark 11. The card was put through the Performance preset of the benchmark, where it scored P3535 points. The bench was probably driven by an Intel Core i5-2500 processor. The reviewer also took GPU-Z screenshots of this card, revealing low core temperature. Based on the 28 nm Cape Verde GPU, the HD 7700 is said to have 640 Graphics CoreNext stream processors, and 1 GB of memory over a 128-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface. It is designed for sub-$200 price points. http://www.techpowerup.com/160434/Radeo ... nshot.html Sub-$200?? i was thinking more like $110-$170 (HD 7750/HD 7770) .. we are looking at approximately HD 6850/6870 performance levels

$185.99 for the HD 7770 .. i was close http://hexus.net/tech/news/graphics/351 ... ppearance/ And $132.99 for the HD 7750 .. prices will probably settle in So we still have HD 6850-HD6870 performance and what does Nvidia have in this price range now? GeForce GTX 560 for $160 GeForce GTX 550 Ti for $110-120 GeForce GTX 460 for $130-140 And the HD 77x0 will have to compete initially with HD 68x0

That is a horrible starting MSRP. It probably won't match the hd6850 (it will come close though), and it will cost more. So essentially the gtx560 (non ti) and hd6850 will still give more bang for the buck.

It won't be long before cards like this hit $100.
Even after all this time, I don't see a worthy upgrade for my GTX 460. Progress has become very slow with GPUs lately.

The HD 7770 is more expensive than either the GTX 460 or the GTX 560. HD 7950 is $450 and HD 7970 is $550. You can expect real market pricing to take effect after Kepler. AMD has to beware of a backlash if Nvidia exploits a faster architecture to gain marketshare at the expense of margin. There won't be any rebates ala GTX 280 style.

I consider a card that's twice as fast as a GTX 460 that costs $100 to be a worthy upgrade, seeing as that's what I paid for my card about a year ago now.

You want GTX 480 performance for $100?! That's not realistic at this point in time, maybe 1.5 years out you'll come close.

Yup it's a waiting game. It's a shame that I have to wait this long. It used to be that I would buy a new computer almost once a year and my performance would at least double. Now I'm waiting a few years each time to do that.
