Another phantom card? It would be nice if you could actually buy one! Where the heck are all the gtx680s????

As soon as we see the 7970 price cuts there will be no reason to wait for nvidia to finally deliver. Charge $480 for the HD7970 and they will fly off the shelves.

They are coming. That is WHY AMD lowered the prices on the HD 7970.
- if the supply was truly constrained, i think we would still see $550

i think it was clever strategy to bring in the GTX 680 in below the HD 7970 pricing. It upset AMD's entire pricing structure and annoyed their fans to no end. AMD built a house of cards and Nvidia called their bluff.

And it has an interesting style

They can't do that. TSMC is playing their own games which is why Nvidia has expressed public dissatisfaction with them and is also checking out the other foundries (wise!).

i believe that Nvidia already has the chips; there is a big stockpile. All of the first batch reference cards were made at Foxconn in secret and that first batch sold out. Their partners had no lead time - maybe a couple of weeks; and it still takes time to put the chips onto the PCBs and into the box and then there is shipping time. They will be arriving in quantity mostly starting next week by my calculations - very uneven at first then a steady stream to fill requests. AMD knows this and the price are dropping NOW.

That is why Nvidia waited so long to release the GTX 680. To stockpile them, And now their partners are putting those chips into the retail boxes as fast as they can (and for OEM). Soon we will see a lot o choice. And maybe even a little drop on the reference versions as we start to see the really custom cards which will even boost pricing.
