So the first part is not so true about AMD?

Given a choice, i would never buy a Samsung phone (unless i plan to upgrade every year)
-- and the same thing applies to any company that doesn't fully support their products compared to their competition.

I kinda agree with Gstanford, I think they're just trying coerce people into buying newer products. Given their current behavior, it wouldn't surprise me.

Don't you think that it takes a lot of money to keep a small team on hand - paying their salaries year after year just to upgrade "old" HW?

AMD is thinking like a corporation - "aggressor" - not as they used to act, for "the community"
- AMD is changing. i really do see this as a cost cutting measure but can turn out to be really expensive for them in any long run.

True, but AMD was able to do it in the past, I'm not sure why suddenly they couldn't afford to do so. Sounds like a new strategy to maximize profits. Furthermore, they foresee growth in the upcoming quarter thanks to Trinity.

If you cut your advertising, fire ten percent of your workforce and drop support prematurely for products. they should turn a profit.

Frankly it still looks to me like AMD is looking for a buyer

And AMD never dropped support for any video products before
. . . ATI did :P

LOL. I meant paying for drivers/product updates. Even when they bought ATI and were in substantial debt, they still managed to maintain decent drivers.

Perhaps, I'll wait to see how they react after Trinity. Whether it's an overwhelming success and all that.

AMD has changed their focus to APU from GPU last year
- their No1 team is not working on GPUs and it shows.

Why differentiate between AMD and ATi now when you have been quick to lecture me that they are the one and the same the past few years?

Because at the time that they dropped support for x800 it was ATi, not AMD.
- unless i am mistaken about the timing

what about x1800 and x19xx? Given the x19xx at least was a current product when AMD took over, and I'm sure that r5xx only gets legacy support now (if that).
