Well, i am unsure of the timing. However, we seem agreed that it is a bad thing for AMD's customers to drop support for HD 4000 series. It just looks to me like Mr Reed was brought in to fix AMD's books up by cutting a lot and preparing the company for sale. To whom i wonder.

I don't think AMD cares who they get sold to, anyone who waves enough money will be good enough for them I suspect.
I think only IBM and Oracle would seriously entertain purchasing them. Maybe an arab or indian or chinese company will attempt to buy them?

IBM maybe but Oracle not so sure.Yeah Reliance can buy AMD,currently the CEO doesn't know what to do with his ocean of money They have purchased a lot of stakes in codemasters recently. So we r getting 10% off for any codemaster games .So we may get AMD gpus for cheap Joking aside i don't think AMD is in any position for potential buyout.

But it looks like they may be prepping themselves for it and doing what other companies do in similar situations. Mr Reed doesn't appear able to back up his words as "aggressor" - there doesn't appear to be any Plan B to meet Kepler and also nothing to meet Ivy. They are primarily competing in the midrange with CPUs and heading in a completely different direction that may or may not be really successful. AMD has cut their workforce to the bone and are dropping services and charging higher prices in an effort to make the short-term margins and their books look good. This is what a company often does to appear attractive to a potential buyer.

Well it may be case.I honestly don't understand business that much It looks to me that AMD is probably not attractive to any potential buyers

Right now, agreed. That may be the reason that they got an exit strategy CEO.
They are heading in new directions and even buying companies and IP that could be useful to an investor with vision and deep pockets.

Doesn't make sense for me since HD 5xxx series are based on the same architecture as the HD 2xxx, 3xxx, and 4xxx series... they're obviously very short-staffed on the driver support team, and are now having to focus on two new architectures at the same time (VLIW4, GCN, plus the old VLIW5 one).
