It really does seem like AMD is slacking off in the driver department much more than 3 years ago or so... but I'd never Crossfire anyways (or SLI either for that respect, with anything less than GTX 690 that has microstuttering fixed at last, apparently..)

Well, I'd recommend at least 1.5GB of VRAM for a powerful SLI setup today, and at least 2GB for the rest of the year BUT personally I'd just go for a single GTX 680 rather than anything SLI yet.. (or a GTX 670), for good bang-4-buck power.

I can't afford the up front cost of $500 for a 680, I could buy four 470s for that price. I'm still waiting for 2GB to slow something down, it's been since forever when AMD fans were chiming that tune, the 4gb 680 is all but worthless at typical resolutions. More vram is good for added AA at high res, however overfilling my system with Skyrim texture packs isn't selling me on the vram deal, 8xAA costs more vram at 1080P, than 5900x1080 does without it. AA isn't worth using vram as a selling point imo, not at a high cost of price/perf.

It's funny you were worried about adam the giant, now he can't even get CF to work with his 7850s.

Tell him to try updating his Intel chipset drivers, worth a shot. Ask him if it said CF enabled board, I know my boards say that when I first install SLI... Dunno about CF though.

i deleted the dp

Are you not posting there now? Yes, some chipsets only support SLI or CF; good suggestion on the MB drivers.

i am hoping to get a 4GB GTX ... then we will see.

One thing that is getting more annoying - i am not sure if it is happening more, or i am just sensitive to it now

Eyefinity has awful tearing in some games on one side screen and sometimes both; i don't force VSync because the fps are usually below 60 at 5760x1080. Tearing is far more noticeable on AMD Eyefinity than it is on Nvidia's Surround.

wonder how long it will take for the FanATIcs to read this and start ripping into you on the other forum because of it?

It's true. 6000 series had it but it was tolerable. There is always some tearing with VSynch off - however in some games - even Deus Ex: HR - the left screen looks like half of it is refreshing at a different rate and it really draws attention to itself.

i don't think i am the first one to report these issues with Eyefinity tearing, i believe it has to do with using passive DP mini adapters to DVI. i will mention it in my upcoming evaluation tomorrow.

So, what is AMD's official stance on passive DP adapters and eyefinity?

According to AMD, passive is fine. And it was tolerable when their driver team actually did something

however .. now ...

You can try work arounds
http://www.overclock.net/t/1179906/6870 ... ing-solved
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1662914

The solution is to buy all native DP displays or pay $50 each for 2 or 3 active adapters

Adam found a workaround at VC&G ... to use an old set of drivers - the new ones are broken

Found these older beta drivers that added support for the 78xx's might be worth a try if all else fails.

Got some Good news. These drivers work.

The oldest drivers available that support 7800 series is the only driver that will work with my Crossfire Asus 7850's. Wow. (I'm basing this soley on running 3DMark11, but also, just being able to use a web browser, etc)

I have to say Im pumped it appears to be working, but this is my first ever issue with AMD Drivers with 15 years of using there cards.

Users are having some real issues with AMD drivers. There have been no real noticeable performance improvements in the past 6 months - just fixes.
