i have my (serious) doubts about "faked" :P

Quote:
Newcomer AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition has "new special faking feature". It is own secret "GPU Boost" technic. AMD driver/GPUz reports different frequencies than they really are! GPU clocks of "GHz edition" are 1.0-1,1 GHz (some vendors has 1,05 or 1,075 MHz) AMD gave them a free hand in this. But there is impossible to check real frequencies, AMD keeps it masked by driver. Stay tuned ... we will prove it later. Card is here ... awaiting for detailed testing.

Update 1: Its look like, GPU is working @ 1,2 GHz instead of 1050 MHz reported in driver/GPUz/utilities. Power consumption/heat/noise corresponds to these higher clocks! Stay Tuned ...

Frankly i am not even sure what he is talking about. If i understand it from what little is reported, it looks like AMD may have a new feature like GPU Boost that may not report clocks correctly yet because of drivers.

Clarification and an apology

It was stupid fault ... Tested on Core i7-2600K @ 4,5 GHz + latest...

In the next iteration of gpu's from AMD we will surely see something similar to turbo, but R&D of this magnitude takes time.So anyone who believed that they can implement turbo within such a short time frame was surely day dreaming.

1050 is just what it needs to beat GTX 680 by a hair overall - simply "GHz" at 1000 MHz wouldn't have shown anything to really make it a clear winner.

Well, Nvidia is probably dismissing this move as "too little, too late", as they know that their big K will treat this thing just like a Killer Whale treats its conquered Seal:
