I think u guys are forgetting about Intel's R&D prowess. They will probably lag in the first few cycles but eventually they will catch up and move past.
Exactly. The first few atom's were the lag phase, medfield is the catch-up and intel is about to switch on the afterburners.
99.9% of all mobile apps are made around ARM devics. Intel simply doesn't make a chip with massively limited application compability, and everyone falls over themselves recoding and compiling their software for Intel. It just doesn't happen.
Intel produced a chip which was bigger in size but comparable in performance to 40nm dual core A9 arm processors. Color me completely unimpressed. When the quad core A15 arm chips come out, being smaller, faster, and less power hungry than anything Intel can bring we'll just keep hearing the beating drums and promises from Intel. Trying to break into a foreign market with a chip that is only "good enough" is going to garner a whole lot of support. And I simply don't see Intel creating a knock out mobile CPU anytime soon. Not with Apple's complete reliance on Arm. Not android's app market completely written for ARM. Not with ARM's 8+ partners all competing and improving upon ARM's reference designs.
no no, your not getting it. intel has an x86 phone that they payed off Lava International the big bucks to stick the Lava name on it. There is no future for Apple now and they should just shut down their loser ARM devices like the iphone and ipad. its all over for ARM cause intel gots a phone and its intel so they win by default. over 9000!
anyways, intel's phone is 100% designed and created by intel. they are giving them away desperately at no cost just to try to get into the market otherwise there wouldnt be a medfield phone on the market anywhere in the world. Not a single one of the OEMs are interested in this technology for smart phones. Intel could barely give it away to some poor company which will only have them available in an isolated part of the world. Intel will have to sling billions and billions more into the cell phone OEMs pockets to get this thing in phones and even then many oems arent willing to take the risk. The cell phone market is full of companies that want iphone like success and none of them see intel as a way to have it. Its actually quit the opposite.
This is not the computer world where intel is king. Cell phones companies are looking for trendy and cool, hip and for social status. intel cannot just make a chip and it kill this trend. ARM will not go anywhere but up. ARM will continue to grow and grow and grow. These past few years have been unbelievable for ARM. Never has any archetecture sky rocketed at the speed at which arm is growing. Its simply unbelievable how successful arm has been lately. Nothing in history has ever been like this. And the momentum will continue without any obstacle for some time. The ball is in full speed and intel cant do much to stop it. The best they could do is hold on tight to their makret cause ARM will start spilling over into it like a tsunami. ARM is making its own roads.
i see x86 having a foreseeable future too, but the arm market is simply growing at speeds intel cannot possible contain. Not even with their fabs and money. They will do little to ARM. Intel has a lot more to worry about from arm than arm does from intel. And that is just how it is. The ARM market is the ARM market. Powerful x86 cpus is intels strength and i thing they should be pushing this direction a lot harder than the poor atom cell phone lost cause direction........
