That is a balanced view based on what we know so far

However, the spin is that 660 is late and no matter how good it's performance is, it should not have been late and it loses 'points' for tardiness
:)

There is a lot of nonsense going around right now and even elite members are flaming each other over at AnandTech over these cards.

I think that right now is an excellent time to buy a GPU if you have around $250 to spend.

not now, but in a few weeks. reviewers get about a week, so the 660ti should be launched sometime next week. you might kick yourself in the butt if you didnt wait to at least see what the 660ti will have to offer.

I think it's fair to say that the 7950 > gtx660 > 7870. That said, they will probably be priced at $300/$250/$200 respectively. I think that they all offer excellent performance for their respective prices.

and this sounds great. when it gets to those prices. for now the 7870 is just under $300. the majority is at $299. I think this isnt a good price at all but no they be some people who let that slide while bashing the 660ti. It looks like the 660ti will be able to beat the 7950 at times, overall i expect it to be slightly slower. By averages it shouldnt be much slower at all unless we are talking huge resolutions. But if the 7870 is okay where its priced, how can the 660ti be so terrible priced in the same range. It will be faster than the 7870 and as fast or faster than the 7950 at times. The 660ti will shake things up, i believe.

As for the price, i would love to see the 660ti priced below 300. i think there is a great chance it will be lower. I think nvidia would want to make a splash with this card and its pretty apparent prices are moving downward. Rebates and specials are looking very common. If nvidia really wanted to make a statement, they have a great chance with the 660ti. I know that there is internal debates going on right now. The 660ti will be higher then $249, i am pretty sure of this. but i am hopeful it will be less than 299. in between is where i think is a great starting place. This would be a nightmare for AMD though as the 660ti would be very highly attractive to the masses..... no matter what others claim. At 299, its pricing would not be so exciting.

The GTX 660 will settle at $249 or even lower. It is metaphysical.

I'd be surprised if it was lower.

the prices of the relevant AMD cards 7870-7950 are said to have jumped up:

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread. ... st33799255

To me, this is AMD making a sneaky preemptive strike. They know Nvidia will price the 660ti according to the 28nm market that AMD currently controls. The higher the prices of the relevant cards, most likely the higher nvidia will price the 660ti. This is what AMDs should really hope for. A higher 660ti price would give AMD more wiggle room and a better hand to play. Get nvidia to realease the 660ti at a higher price then on launch day.......AMD cut their prices to the low to spoil the thunder.

Its brilliant.

I mean look, if the 7870 is at 319 when nvidia sets the price of the 660ti, nvidia probably isnt gonna go under 300. With the old AMD prices of last week, i would expect the 660ti to be less than 300. But i know nvidia is influenced by AMDs pricing, and these higher prices could be the bait nvidia takes. If nvidia takes the bait, AMD scores. a great legendary play.....a master move.

Its gonna be interesting

It's possibly an offer of a truce. A way to avoid a price war.

It depends what Nvidia wants - margin or marketshare. If they ignore the AMD price spike, and price the 670 Ti at $279, they are going after margin. If they price at $249, they are going after blood. If they price at $300, they get margin and high profit for each card sold. If they have a lot of them, who knows? Nvidia can always adjust the price downward; the market will anyway if justified. But it is hard to go up from a low introductory price.

Look at it this way, the GTX 560 Ti entered the market at $249 and the GTX 660 TI is replacing it and it is not a more expensive card to produce. Nvidia was not shy to price the GTX 670 at $399 even though the GTX 570 debuted at $379
(i think  )

My guess is $279 with overclocked models to $299
:hello:

AMD and nVidia have been known to collude with one another to artificially inflate GPU prices. I wouldn't put it past them.
