Hmm. In that case I might wait.

At Butterfly Labs they are working on a bitcoin mining unit that gets 3,500mhash/sec and it only costs $149. It's due out in October. The problem is that if enough people run those it's going to ruin the bitcoin market.

it is doomed from the start sickbeast now you are starting to see that its really not sustainable. Already you see signs that this cannot last, even if there is a little cash you can make now. its ginna be exploited and die. People will get rich from it, but just not your everyday joe. The masterminds that thought it up will cash in handsomely in the end.

I am also passing this generation up. Already have a 560ti 448 superclocked i snagged in 7 months ago. I was able to swing it at a mere 200$. There has been no deals that i have seen that really would make me feel the need to buy any 28nm card. my card is equal to a 570 and it overclocks easily another 100mhz. this should give me about 15% more performance. i rarely even overclock it though. i think i will wait a while longer on a new card. until something grand comes about.

Ocre I know of several people who have paid for radeon 5870s and 6950s with bit coins. They earned over $200 per year for each card.

The early adopters. You are now starting at the base of the pyramid.

Why don't you use your 7970 to mine? Do you want me to show you how? I'm up to 0.5 bitcoins after only a few days. You would be up to a full bitcoin by now which is worth close to $10.

No, but thank-you for your offer.

i am not interested. Bitcoin mining also uses bandwidth which i sorely lack and i think the pennies i might make would not equal the frustration of dedicating a PC to it. i also hate wasting electricity to produce essentially nothing but heat.
(hamster)

i don't believe in it and i don't wish to be part of what i consider a pyramid scam. That said, it is my own opinion and i wish you luck and am very interested in seeing your long-term result

Hmm...I just nearly jumped on a 7870 for $237. Should I have done it?

If your heart is set on it and you can clear it with the missus, sure
... however. be aware that prices are being adjusted in the AMD lineup currently

She's not letting me do it. :(

She says that the value of the bitcoins fluctuates too much and she's not comfortable with it.

It's too bad because the two cards combined would have given me a really powerful rig.
