I can get a 7850 for around $200 or else a 7950 for around $280. I'm doing this for better gaming performance and for the bitcoins.

I'm leaning toward the 7850 because it will give me a good crossfire configuration. I'm wondering though if I could just run the 7950 with my 7850 in "frankenfire" for even better performance.

The 7950 is a better deal in terms of bitcoins and performance per dollar as far as I can tell.

Thoughts?

CF is for the birds.

Do you really need more performance, or are you affected by the techforum sickness?

Are you at 1200p or less? I can't find anything to make me switch over to my main rig right now, pretty lame considering one system cost me less than $500 while the other was almost $1800 and there is really no reason for it.

What game(s) are you playing that you feel are adversely affected by fps at this point?

How much can you sell your current HD 7850 for?

i'd be inclined to sell it and get a 7970. Why settle for a 7950?

i would absolutely not run a 7950 with a 7850. Nor would i consider Bitcoins as any kind of money-making machine and leave that out of the equation (except with talking with the missus about it).

I'm at 1080p for now. I will be getting a catleap in a month or two.

I find it's just the Crysis games that really bog me down. I don't really need the performance. I just figure it's a no brainer considering the bitcoins. Other games would benefit as well though as I find I can't really run much AA with most current games on my 7850.

I could probably get maybe $180 for my 7850. The thing is though it's earning me $13/week in bitcoins. That means that if I keep it for 14 weeks or so it will earn me that much, minus my electricity costs.

What I think I'm going to do is get the 7970 once I can get a deal on one. They've been going for around $360 with 4 games when they're on sale. Then, down the line, I will get a tri-sli motherboard and add another 7970 and keep my 7850 in the 3rd slot to continue generating bitcoins. At that point I will be generating around 1500mhash/sec which will probably earn me around $80/week in bitcoins.

The tri-sli motherboards are surprisingly cheap. They're around $130.

so where do you keep this bitcoin cash?

how much do you have built up total?

why dont you cash it in for extra money for your next GPU. Also post a picture of the check (once you cash it in) if you dont mind

There's not going to be a check. So far I have earned 0.5 bitcoins in about 3-4 days. Basically my 7850 can generate 1 bitcoin per week. They are currently selling for $13.

The way it works is, with the website I'm using, once my system has generated a bitcoin, it then sends it to my "wallet". From there I use my wallet on the bitcoin exchange to sell it and they will put the money into my PayPal account. *edit* they don't actually use PayPal; I will let you know how it works once I do it.

I should have a full bitcoin in a few days. I will update you guys to let you know if I get the money.

apoppin you should be all over this with all your AMD hardware. You would probably be earning at least $50 per week.

Oh noes! Bitcoin prices have dropped to $9 overnight! :(

My electricity costs are $4/week, so if the Bitcoins drop that low then it's no longer viable for me. I figure my system is using 250 watts, perhaps less, but that's what I budgeted on. Apparently the 7850 only eats up ~100w under full load.

This is what you are going to find - it goes up to entice people in ... and then it goes down when the big farmers sell.

It is a pyramid scam. By the time you count your electricity costs and fees for converting BitCoins into cash, you will have wasted a lot of electricity, burned out your PC and ended up with nothing.

You needed to have started two years ago and to be out of it by now.
