I think Oblivion was one example. I have a boxed copy (collector's edition) of Oblivion, but the mod sites sometimes mention Steam or GOTY edition problems. So yeah, that is one drawback. Of course, it might just be a problem of having more than one "edition" of a game, and not directly related to Steam itself.

Company of Heroes? Yeah, tell me about it. There's like >10 patches to install from the retail version!

FEAR was a PitA to patch, as i remember. And CoJ has 1 patch for each version of the game - and it is not at all clear which one to apply.

I the same "problem", only bigger (more games installed), but it doesn't worry me at all. Much better than downloading the patch umpteen different times on my slow internet when I can just store it on a cheap HDD, or steam deciding that, "sorry you can't play now because I want to pull 50gb worth of patches in RIGHT NOW".

Well, i back up my Steam games to my back-up HDD, so installing a typical (patched) Steam games only takes a few minutes.

When my Steam games are finally fully installed, i take it OFFLINE.
- i never really have to go online again with Steam

Going offline doesn't always work though (or it didn't always when I actually used steam). Sometimes steam decides it is going to go online and that is that.

Me? I'll keep purchasing discs. Physical proof of ownership, and can't be banned from my own games.

That's the one thing that does give me slight pause - the potential for them to decide I can't play my games anymore. However, considering how many times it takes repeat offenders to even get a 1 day suspension on most gaming services, I think the probability of getting banned from my games is lower than winning a billion in the lottery. Heck, I've never done anything to even get a verbal warning in any gaming service, as far as I can remember.
