It's now Buy-2-Play. Spend $30 and you can play for "free" forever (except for future DLC and accessories). NO MORE MONTHLY SUBS!

However, it's only $15 at Amazon. Imagine the GW 2 experience for $15. Well, it's not GW .. however ...

Update, AC 3 is also now available with TXAA

i am getting the game. i'll do a full evaluation of TXAA

=============

Anyone else playing this? Not sure really what to say. i picked my character - a Templar - and i am loose in London
- i got a place to do some repeatable benching in the first level/

Not sure what i am doing neither. i guess i will look for a tutorial. Controls remind me of the Longest Journey which took me forever to get used to. Graphics are good and i am getting decent framerates on a GTX 680. Sadly there is no TXAA options.

Exactly what I thought on the TXAA situation, looks like the Ars thread had correct info after all (and I reported said info correctly too).

Evidently it has not been patched yet.

It looks really good. A GTX 680 averages about 33 fps with everything maxed out with FXAA high at 2560x1600 and still looks smooth. The combat is a bit clunky but there is some depth to it (i am mostly spamming 1-2-3, etc :P )

The world is huge and there are hundreds of ways to develop your character. i got stuck with mostly hard missions right now .. and they ARE ***hard***
-- i may have to go and do some side missions.

i like the game. it will be a benchmark for as long as i play it (28 or so more days)
:)

However, if i plan to get anything else done (like my evaluations), i better limit my time with the game

TXAA enabled
Quote:
With the launch of the latest Secret World update, gamers can now leverage TXAA, a new anti-aliasing technique introduced with the latest "Kepler" generation of GPUs. Designed specifically to reduce temporal aliasing (crawling and flickering in motion), TXAA is a combination of hardware anti-aliasing, a custom anti-aliasing resolve, and a temporal filter. To filter pixels, TXAA uses a contribution of samples both inside and outside of the pixel in conjunction with samples from prior frames, to offer the highest quality filtering possible. In motion, TXAA approaches the quality of other high end, professional anti-aliasing algorithms, though the higher quality filtering used by TXAA does result in a softer image compared to the lower quality filtering of traditional MSAA.

Will explore TSW today

It's like what Hellgate: London should have been imo. No idea about SW; won't try it until November when it is F2P

TSW is engrossing, large, varied, and professionally done. Much better than AoC; it appears that they learned from it. Also it takes the best elements of all the current MMOs and melds them into something that so far is fun.

It is going to be an ABT benchmark for at least a month. And i plan to check out 3D Vision and TXAA

You have to have the very latest patch
http://www.thesecretworld.com/news/issu ... date_1_1_1
Quote:
With this update we have enabled TXAA, and The Secret World is the first game in the world to support this anti-aliasing technique! This requires the newest NVIDIA Kepler (600) series of GPU (driver version 304.79 or later). To enable TXAA in the video options of the game select "TXAA 2x" or "TXAA 4x" as your anti-aliasing under the video options of the game. These drivers are schedueled to go out of beta (WHQL) around the 13th of August.

The patch has a lot of fixes and is 668MB

it'll be an hour before i can even get to TSW
:P

The difference is quite noticeable with TXAA on high vs FXAA on high. But it is noticed by a lack .. you no longer are bother by the texture crawling
-- this is preliminary but a very cautious positive. i am going to start a new character (mostly because i effed my last one up and i just figured out the leveling and character wheel) and run around London again. i guess i will have to use video because screen shots aren't where TXAA counts

Significant difference between TXAA and FXAA and for me does look cinematic and movie like. This title could actually use this enhancement. 3d vision is not recommended now!

How is 3D Vision without it? i have been playing at 2560x1600 with a GTX 680

AND .. maybe i can ask you. What happens when you progress too far in the storyline and all the quests are Hard?
- is there a way to go back to London and pick up some easy stuff or do i have to level up where i am?
