The level of stupidity is increasing at VC&G. Here is the AMD troll replying to Timothy Lottes and making himself look even more stupid. The AMD trolls must be beyond desperate to grasp at lies.

Well, Timothy does leave himself wide open to such comments. From your post quoting him earlier in the thread:

Nothing wrong with saying you don't care about the sharpness.
TXAA is fighting temporal aliasing, so you can combine it with up/downscaling and resizing.
And when he says "latency snob", man I'm sold.

You have to pick your fights.

You can't say Kepler is scaling horribly - assuming scaling UP, without admitting that it scales phenomenally down.

You can't say you're a gfx ho, and then spout something like "use MSAA and you're golden".

Whenever I see someone using 8xMSAA, or god forbid 16x/32xCSAA I'm sure he's either a newb or a blind as a bat.
And then this blindo comes with IQ dissertation to Mr. Lottes :puke:

AMD flags are always flying high whenever NV launches(and vice versa), but AT VCG really takes the cake.
The problem is, it takes time and effort to filter noobs from kooks from shills :)

What most people want is an image that is free of aliasing ***AND*** sharp. FXAA and TXAA can't deliver that. In order to remove aliasing they sacrifice sharpness for blurring, and while I would not want to defend the AT VC&G poster in any way, I'm sure this is what they meant by "He either doesn't have clue about IQ or is purposefully ignoring the obvious to sell his "product." "

Well he said that right away. About TXAA sacrificing sharpness for shimmer-free image.
What people don't understand is that part of shimmering lays in pixel-wide fidelity of your content.

Ever ran those beautiful DEMOs, benchmarks, 3DMark, Unigine etc, at maxed setting
and being puzzled as to why the hell does that tree/rooftop/whatever have to artifact/shimmer, when everything else looks phenomenal.

Well there you go.

What i don't like are the automatic negative comments even though no one commenting actually has the game or has bothered to really look at Nvidia's video demos and they keep dredging up awful looking screen shots to somehow prove a point when it is stated that TXAA's *purpose* is to alleviate shimmering and texture crawling in MOTION.

i did a decent quickie evaluation of TXAA the day the patch released
http://alienbabeltech.com/main/?p=31233
i made it quite clear that especially in the case of the Secret World, the blur added a welcomed cinematic look compared to before with textures crawling and shimmering along with rampant aliasing. i don't really like blur (except it works well in tSW), but i dislike shimmering and crawling more. It is a matter of a trade-off and in tSW it just looks better with TXAA actually playing the game.
:hello:

And my screens although blurred are nothing as bad as blur0vision they are giving as examples. You can definitely read the text in the dialog box unlike with MLAA that really blurred everything. It is more difficult to read smaller text than "FRAGIL" on the boxes but as a trade-off, the aliasing is really alleviated on some lines that are distracting otherwise. And FXAA can do pretty well on text too but it does nothing for shimmering.

oops ... fixed .. the first image is no AA, the second is Tx4AA

Sorry, but your pictures are every bit as bad to my eye, though you should go out and the same on cobblestones in a detailed area.

What are the settings for the first image, it looks like you are running no AA whatsoever, but that would preferable to me than the bottom image that looks like a 3DFX Voodoo 1 with a wonky VGA connector is rendering it.

Again .. it works really well with the camera in MOTION

Textures really crawl in tSW and there is a lot of shimmering that is very distracting in motion. You have to tune it out to play. Not being able to read the fine print on a generic box doesn't matter to me as a consequence of enabling TXAA considering that the shimmer and crawling is now gone. It is an acceptable tradeoff to me.
