So I woke up today and my wife says to me "hun there has been an accident, please don't be mad", and then she showed me the laptop and the screen has basically shattered. She said that she was trying to pick it up with hand lotion on her hands and it slipped and she cracked the screen.

Do you guys know how cheap and easy it is to replace just the screen? I think I've seen the panels selling for less than $100 but I forget where. If any of you know a good source I would appreciate it, otherwise I need a new laptop. Should I wait for Haswell or just try to find a hot deal?

That's 2 computers destroyed in about a year!

You can get by with a external display for as long as you want. It's pretty expensive to replace a screen - you might consider buying a used notebook (for the screen or as a replacement)

Last laptop screen I replaced was 768 and it cost $130 shipped with inverter.

Where did you order the panel from?

Could I upgrade to a 1080p display?

Today I *finally* got around to ordering a replacement panel for my laptop. $65 including tax and shipping, not bad at all. It looks a little bit tricky but I think I can get it in there no problem.

My cousin gave me his old notebook when he got a new one. His old one is faster than mine and mine has been overheating for months ...
