Their CPU socket was an open standard until they bought ATI out, and nvidia was on of the hypertransport consortium that designed that interface along with the old AMD. ATi played no part in it.

I don't like closed standards. It's nothing against nVidia. They just happen to be one of the worst culprits with their CUDA, C for Graphics, and now this.

And nvidia were one of the main designers of OpenCL to give this sort of tech (OpenCL is basically early CUDA & GPU C) to other GPU vendors. AMD/ATI as per usual sat on their fat arses and didn't do squat to develop OpenCL. They are happy to exploit it nowadays though!
