5-17-2011Verizon expands 4G LTE network in Chicago area

Verizon Wireless said it has expanded its local 4G network and will launch new service areas Thursday.

The carrier introduced 4G in Chicago in December, with the coverage area stretching east to Lake Michigan, south to Tinley Park and west to Lake Zurich. On Thursday, customers as far east as Portage, Ind. and as far south as Peotone will be able to access the more powerful network. On the western side, Verizon's 4G coverage extends to North Aurora and Geneva. Customers on the Illinois and Wisconsin state line are also included.

Verizon said it has four new cell sites in Chicago: around the intersection of Wacker Drive and Clark Street, around the Gleacher Center, around Grant Park and around Irving Park Road between Sheridan Road and Lake Shore Drive. The carrier said it has enhanced coverage in a one-block radius around the Randolph/Wabash Brown Line CTA station and between West Armitage Avenue and West Eugene Street. These new cell sites and upgrades should improve voice and data connectivity, the company said.

When customers are outside of the 4G network, their devices connect to Verizon's nationwide 3G network. The carrier said it plans to have 4G cover its entire 3G footprint by the end of 2013. Verizon uses a 4G technology called Long-Term Evolution, or LTE, which will also be deployed by AT&T and U.S. Cellular this year.

Can i install an older firmware on an iphone 4g when it comes out? Hi i'm slowly counting down the days of the release of the iphone 4 and i really want to jailbreak it when it comes out. But it would probably take a few months for the jailbreak for OS 4 to come out. So i'm wondering if i could install the older firmware of iphone on the iphone 4g when it comes out so that i may be able to jailbreak it?

Generally jail breaks are specific to the Flash memory in a particular phone so I would think you can not use the older jail break.

How to cancel the edge network and stay only with 4G? I just got the galaxy S at T-mobile but the problem is that when I'm at home it keeps using the slow Edge network instead of 4G. Is there anyway I can just stay with the 4G so my internet is fast?
