It looks like a solid phone and something for Intel to build on. Very good.
-- is this the phone that is being sold in the Far East first for $429?

i have been following it mostly because of the OP's efforts
.. and thanks for that!

It is for sale in India, and will be sold by Orange in France/Europe very soon.

This is going to destroy ARM in the windows RT market. Who cares about a locked down, pretend, playtoy version of windows when you can have the real thing?

Quote:
The bigwigs at Intel are boasting that prices of Windows 8 touch devices will dip to new low prices soon. You can thank the engineers working on the next generation Atom processor named “Bay Trail”. Atom might bring PTSD type memories from those netbook days, but it’s gone from “the little processor that could” to something that could shake up the mobile market. Bay Trail is expected to the most powerful Atom processor and will double the computing performance of the current crop. In addition you can look forward to all day battery life, weeks of standby, and devices with designs as thin as 8mm (0.3 inches).

Paul Otellini, CEO of Intel wrote:
"If you look at touch-enabled Intel-based notebooks that are ultrathin using [Bay Trail] processors. Those prices are going to be down to as low as $200.”

By Q3 of this year (about the same time frame as the latest Tegra, which will get rudely booted out of the windows tablet market by this).

You didn't believe in Medfield mobile phones either...........

Remember "the PC is dying/dead". So what emerging market would intel need to aim at to make up the slack?!

Medfield is yet to prove itself. Last i looked, Intel did not make their earning projections and sales are down except for the server market.

A $200 Win-based ultralight notebook IS too good to be true! It sounds like PR to me unless Intel is subsidizing this market.

Perhaps in the USA Medfield has yet to prove itself, outside the USA it already has proved itself.

Atom in tablets, particularly windows tablets is a far, far easier sell, and intel will price the chips to whatever they need to be in order to succeed.
