The iPhone 4s vs. the Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Cell phones have come far although some say without the iPhone, the “smartphone revolution” would have never happened. The first smartphone was introduced as a concept device in 1992, as the IBM Simon. The original smartphones were combinations of features everyone wanted, being a personal data assistant combined with telephone use. Apple and Samsung are two major smartphone manufacturers today both with their own diverse user interface that make them attractive to a certain demographic.

Android or IOS? – that is the raging question. Just this past Superbowl Sunday, we saw yet another Samsung commercial bashing Apple for its latest release; pointing out its lack of an overall refresh, while Samsung toted their new beast of a phone the Samsung Note, with a whopping (maybe too big?) 5.3 inch display.

Apple and Steve Jobs have created a legacy of patent lawsuits against the world of Android, creating jokes that Apple will sue Samsung for having any 3.5 inch black phone that has a screen. Just use a Google search and type in Patent lawsuits by Apple and you will see the sheer amount of them occurring. For every Android device Samsung sells it must pay $10-15 per device to Microsoft in “licensing costs”. Amidst all this, Samsung creates the iPhone 4s processor while it collaborates with Google in creating its newest flagship phone, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Consumers eat these devices up but why choose one over the other?

Great article.

It's interesting to see how big the Nexus is in comparison to the iPhone.

Apple is apparently filing a bunch of lawsuits to prevent the Nexus from being sold. Steve Jobs' dying wish was to destroy android.

iOS *is* better than Android. I haven't tried Ice Cream Sandwich, but I have used Gingerbread, Froyo, and Eclair, and my wife's iPhone 3GS has a better OS than what I've been able to use on my Android phone.

The article points out the extreme customization-ability of Ice Cream Sandwich.

The best news is that ABT has writers now to cover the mobile platforms

Yes, Android is more customizable, but everything works faster under iOS plus you get better battery life by a considerable margin.

ice cream sandwich has brought with many changes which include hardware acceleration making these phones scream. The nexus also has a huge battery which has lasted people sometimes over and entire day on charge. There are many "battery" reviews that conflict each other. But needless to say the iphone 4s launched with battery issues they have yet to fix for many users. When web browsing fully the iphone wins when watching videos it was about equal when doing everything at once while on wifi the nexus wins. Im not sure if its available on iphone but juice defender on android doubles your battery life:it automatically turns off all gps, internet, wifi, etc then when you interact with your phone it turns it back on. The interaction lag that occurs in every android phone is gone from what ive experienced. Both are great! I love ios5 and ice cream sandwich is fantastic. Try to get your hands on a nexus to play around with it (imnewhere)

Thought i drop in on the discussion since im part of the team now, Im very welcome to join the ABT team and i hope to bring more great mobile news :). But to add to the galaxy nexus battery issues, well again it is still a debate as to how long the battery lasts. I have not heard anything positive about the battery, but to begin with the battery itself isnt all that big, standard size i would say. Some users claim, 10hrs or half a day, every experience may differ from one user to another. All depends on how you use your phone, best way to tell is leave your phone on standby and see how long it takes for a percentage of battery to drop.
