I was having a bit of a read of the "other" forum and the "worst graphics card thread" they have going, which seems to have morphed more into a competition and price bitching thread.

People just don't seem to get one simple little fact when it comes to video card pricing. Cheapest is not always best for the consumer (despite how it might seem at the moment).

nvidia and AMD do not design GPU on an R&D budget funded by a money tree plantation, the R&D is funded by sales of their cards.

Lower prices on cards means less money to develop the next generation of cards, which in turn means the cards will take longer to come to market (people are already squealing about how long its been since G80, well imagine how much longer it would take with a limited R&D budget) and/or less features.

There is no such thing as a free lunch, and (price) competition won't save you - it will merely render both companies incapable of delivering the products we expect, when we expect them - and leave the door open for intel to enter and take yet another market over.

Time to grow a brain people!

You might have noticed that i replied that i NEVER made a bad video card purchase
- not even 2900XT which i got on a great sale and kept in my PC for a year while others b!tched about it; heck it lead me to CrossFire-X -
-eventually AMD refined it and we have a decent competitor to GT200 in the 4XX0 series; they survived with almost no R&D money as they have been operating at a loss for over 2 years

Cheap is not bad for the consumer as long as the vendors have sense to keep their profit margins intact; they know what they need for R&D

. . . and as your old buddy, Huddy said, expect to be "surprised" by the nex DX11 AMD videocards - *pleasantly*
- for you, that would mean they are slow and painful compared to Nvidia's new offerings

Yes, I did notice. There are one or two sensible posters in there, but I fear they are being drowned out by the rabblerousers.

that forum has sadly lost its "discussion"
- they are 2 hard core camps that just throw the same trash back and forth at each other

it is almost impossible to pick the gems out of the swill now; if they had an "ignore" feature - 2/3rds of the guys would be on mine
:hello:

i mean who CARES what Evolucion8 or Wreckage says?
(to give extreme examples of the worst kind of fanboy)
- they will spin anything into the ground and RUIN any discussion with their idiotic FUD
:-q

That is exactly why WE have made sure to include this feature into our forum. I'm really sure that our members will enjoy this feature when the fanboys start to give trouble.
