This is a big event hosted by Nvidia in San Jose, CA and it is pretty much Nvision09 without the gaming. ABT has been invited by Nvidia to attend the event as "press" and this editor intends to cover it more thoroughly than i did Nvision08 in a a pre-launch article for ABT here.

GPU Technology Conference is basically three events held at the same time: (1) The Emerging Companies Summit, (2) GPU Developer Summit and (3) the nVidia Research Summit. It is similar to Intel's IDF - looking to the future - but all using GPU technology.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/gpu_techno ... rence.html
Here Nvidia links to the schedule, and if there is something you particularly want me to cover, LMK and i will sign up for it

The Emerging Companies Summit particularly interests me as here i can look at future possibilities for ABT's transformation into a 3D world - some of these guys would know how to do this. And i am already scheduled for Jensen's address and "fireside chat" moderated by Jon Peddie.

This section is programming using the GPU - from film and broadcast to Computational fluid dynamics and DX11 and i am doing some research now so i won't be lost. LMK what interests you. This is an interesting tool which is previewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLQuqXhlx40

Finally, this part of ECS is devoted to research and engineering. Some brilliant scientists and researchers will be addressing this part of the conference. i will be right at home in academia.

i will probably write an article for the main site before i go and perhaps i will be able to do a live presentation from the GTC for ABT and a few follow up articles.

What are YOU interested in?

- that is why i signed up for Jensen's "Fireside Chat" .. and i will keep my ears and eyes open. i expect that there will be something from Nvidia to counter HD 58X0

However, that is not what the conference is about :hello:

Any camcorder experts here?

My Panasonic DVC is finally getting flaky after TEN years :P

i need a cheap replacement that will record at least 720p and be "friendly" to uploading to YouTube, etc.

here are a few that i can afford and have narrowed it down to (although not from these stores):

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Handycam-Opt ... hisProduct

http://www.audio-discounters.com/vpc-th1.html

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... CatId=4450

http://ca.sanyo.com/Dual-Cameras/VPC-CG ... ill-photos

----------------

is it worth it to go 1080p?
- for a website?

how about between these two, if i aim a bit higher?

http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camcord ... mncol;psum

=============

Final Edit:
Well, i know a little more about 1080p camcorders and i got the Sanyo - the damn thing does not even come with a SD or ANY internal memory so i got a 16 GB SDHC

http://ca.sanyo.com/Dual-Cameras/VPC-FH ... tal-Photos

the battery life and the storage will both be just over 2 hours before i need to recharge or D/L to my notebook's HD - that will cover a couple of sessions in full HD and stereo
:good:
. . . if there are no outlets available for me to recharge at the conference (my hotel is 1-1/2 miles away :P), i could always bring my dual battery pack 850VA UPS

. . . actually, now that i think about it, my 350 VA UPS would fit nicely in a backpack and power my notebook and digi-cam for all day :D
 - i have to see what they provide for us press guys

Quote:
Nvidia CEO to visit Taiwan in October, to discuss 40nm contract prices with TSMC

Monica Chen, Taipei; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES [Friday 18 September 2009]

Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang will travel to Taiwan in the second half of October to meet with its motherboard and graphics card partners. Huang is also expected to hold talks with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) chairman Morris Chang to discuss contract prices for 40nm production, according to sources at graphics card makers.

Huang is also expected to check on TSMC's 40nm process, for which TSMC has claimed yield rates have already risen from 30%, to 60% in July, and defect density will drop to only 0.2 in October. Huang will also check the progress of its upcoming GT300 GPU which is expected to launch in December.

Meanwhile, Chang is expected to talk to Huang about partnership on TSMC's 28nm process, which will start pilot runs in the first quarter of 2010, and will start contributing revenues in 2011.

Huang is also expected to visit VIA Technologies to make final confirmation on the Ion 2 platform for the end of December, added the sources.

That should give you a few talking points -- Ion 2 for VIA, 28nm TSMC partnership, 40nm progress.

December - or - January. Who really knows? It doesn't matter much, GT300 will be done when its done (much like G80 - G71 filled in for it). Its pointless bringing chips to market on a process that isn't fully up to par.

Well, we heard "November"

Of course, i am not going to "wait" for GT300, but will explore 58X0 series in the meantime

i see advantages to having 2 PCs now; one powered by Nvidia graphics (PhyX/3D) and the other by AMD/ATi (DX10.1&11/eyefinity)
- it is almost like having XBox and PS platforms now. :tease:

Please keep the suggestions coming .. i can also cover programming for the GPU, academic solutions, as well as interviewing the presenting companies listed on Nvidia's GTC page:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/gpu_techno ... rence.html

Yesterday, i ordered two 16 GB SDHCs (1 each, Class 2 and Class 6) and one 4 GB (Class 6) SDHC and a USB 2.0 card reader for "continuous" recording so i can even do long interviews and record as many of the sessions in full HR HD 1080p as you want me to.

- this Sanyo 1080p HR-HD digi-camcorder is TINY

how tiny .. see attached
:good:

evidently it is also a "true" 8 MP still cam also
:hello:

expect a Review on it after i get back from GTC

yes, its quite amazing how far video recording has come if you compare that to the early VHS-C camcorders which were lumbering great beasts that produced truly horrid output.
