Bah, thats not newsworthy. If you want to talk about nvidia employees posting in forum threads, I've got a much better post from chrisray to show you - http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php? ... ostcount=1

I guess with Derek Perez gone from nvidia PR, there is quite the shakeup going on there at the moment and old policies might change.

the source:

that was *my* suggestion to Nvidia (a long time ago)

I'm guessing that the dual-GPU cards will be called 5970 (5870 X2) and 5950 (5850 X2). :think:
After all, two 5900 entries were reportedly spotted in the latest Catalyst Beta driver set.

That leaves the 5x90 open for future revisions. :good:

:grin:

So what will 5870 be called when it transitions ?
---5890, right? . . . OK, just as 4870 was upgraded to 4890.

So, there will be 5870 > 5890, right?
. . . and if the current (5870/5850's) X2s are called (respectively) 5970 and 5950, what would the future 5890 series X2 sandwiches be named ?

:scratch:

That is what I'm figuring.

However, there was no 4890 X2 was there...... So.......
I'm not expecting to see an "X2" for the revision card, the 5890.

ATi was *planning* a 4890-X2 but managed to get 58X0 series out the door very quickly
- what if they need to get an X2 for their revision card ...
:scratch:
... i think they are painting themselves into a corner with names
:doh:

Not really Mark. I see that you're not thinking... :scratch:

Card -> "X2" variant
5850 -> 5950
5870 -> 5970
5890 -> 5990

It not that hard to figure out but this is just MY speculation anyway. (gi)

The 5990 has a nice ring to it though. :grin:

maybe it is possible .. but i am most looking forward to the one after 5990 series
... 6660 series :tease:
:grin:

i will miss the X2 moniker; i guess AMD is reserving it for their Phenom II series now
:think:
