Either TSMC has 28nm running earlier than people thought they would (in that case expect Kepler from nvidia at about the same time (and people told me it was impossible for this timeframe for Kepler in an earlier thread........)) or Global Foundries has 28nm up and running and MAD is abandoning the TSMC ship.

GF is up and running but i am pretty confident they arent gonna be pumping out 28nm GPUs for AMD any time soon. What i read is things are merely on schedule. We are gonna see 28nm southern islands this year. the article say:

"set to mass produce the GPU in May this year."

that doesnt mean they will be on the shelf in may. Hopefully all goes well for both teams.

You are right, if the GPU's start being mass produced in may, that puts them on the shelves 8 weeks later in late july/early august. If you allow a little more time for testing that is september, a time nvidia often likes to launch stuff.

I am looking forward to seeing what a 28nm shrink can bring to us. how dramatic will it be? Its been a while since we seen a shrink, how much will this give us?

What do you all think, is this shrink gonna be like the 65>55 or is it gonna be huge?

substantial i think

they will both naturally look to cut power but will probably continue to pull out all of the stops for their flagship GPUs

i'd like to see a single-GPU HD 7790 beat a HD 6990, quietly as an example
:hello:

no way!
maybe the 7980 can get close to this, but i am not sure it will even beat it. But dreams can come true i guess!
