Hopefully I did well on choosing my new monitor. Ordered the SAMSUNG BX2440X 24" last night.

I researched the symptoms on the old 225 and found out it's more than likely a capacitor issue that's causing it to turn off about 1 sec after turning it on. I used to be able to hit the power button and cycle through this issue and it would stay on after about 20-30 times, but yesterday was a no go.

So I pulled it apart, unsoldered the 6 CapXon capacitors that were bulging/leaking. Waiting on the replacements that I ordered. It might be a while before I get to this, since I'll be enjoying my new monitor............ but I will update the thread with my results.

So, what do you guys think of the BX2440X 24", other than no hdmi?

Well, it is a Samsung which usually means quality. And it is a bit bigger than your last one and with a higher resolution - from 22"/1680x1050 > 24"/1920x1080, so that will be a plus.
-Specs are generally meaningless as to anything but size. :P

The only 'disadvantage' would be lack of DisplayPort and it is a TN display (nevermind their "angle" claims) And despite the baloney about motion blur, as far as i can see it is a 60hz panel.

Another positive----
Gives me a reason to convince the wife that a video card upgrade is needed, explaining that the upsize slows down my pc experience with just the 470 (ROFLMAO)

Actually, that is nothing to laugh about - it is a genuine reason to upgrade your video card
:hello:

And are you *sure* your wife doesn't know about ABT forum?

My feelings are, if you liked your old display, you are going to like this one even more

My wife knows I like to upgrade. I try to keep a new build for at least 2 years instead of 1 now, unless it's a videocard or drive....etc. Those are considered minor hiccups.
Waiting 'till the end of the year for a hopeful revision of the 570 or a new 670 perhaps???? October usually gets the heart pumping faster ;)

Crossing my fingers on no dead pixels. I've been lucky on my last 4 monitors. 2+ week turnaround times SUCK!!!

Got the new monitor about 10 min ago................. Sweet!
Still have to adjust it a bit, but it's nice!

That height adjustment rocks!

I think I have this new monitor adjusted correctly. No dead pixels either <:-P

What utility do most people use for new monitor calibration?

I've bought quite a few monitors and never calibrated any of them beyond the standard fidgeting of settings. Generally I find the factory settings to be pretty good, but maybe I'm just too laid back.

However, I noticed most of my monitors came with a CD and usually there is some kind of application on there that helps you calibrate (this is likely manufacturer dependent). I would say that unless you are in photography or some kind of graphics related field, it's not important to calibrate the monitor stringently as long as it looks good to you.
